| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 20, 2006 This was a very dark beer, very much unlike most American Strong Ales. It looked like an Imperial Stout, as it was thick and oily...It has a pungent, cellared aroma with strong roasted malts and coffee/cocoa. The alcohol was evident, and made this beer very astringent and somewhat unpalatable in general...just OK. JohnnyJ (1312), Carlsbad, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 11, 2008 This is an excellent brew. Pours a deep reddish brown with frothy light tan head. Has similarities with imp stout, barleywine, and old ales. Roasted malt, bread, milk chocolate, chestnuts, plums and hints of dark fruit, licorice, oak vanilla, and hints of cocoa and floral hops. The hops are not sharp or bitter, but instead meld nicely into the rich malt. The mouthfeel is soft and rich. Wonderfully silky. Great beer. henrikb (1303), Aarhus, Denmark
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Bottle - Black body, thick light brown head; What an amazing nose, layer upon layer of perfect fine aromas emerge from the black deep, this is so amazing, sweet parts, dry parts, fruity parts and amazingly for its complexity it is perfectly balanced; The body is great too, soft, sharp, thin, full, big, elegant, salty, bitter, sweet and perfectly balanced; This is a black beer and it finishes perfectly black with big black aromas, smoothening out over a long long time. I dont know what more to say about this beer, I is incredibly good. Oh, if there is one very small flaw, the carbonation seems a very little to sharp or maybe it is the bitterness in the late finish that has the sharpness. TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2007 Beer pours black with a smallish dark tan head that is moderately retained. Aroma is interesting with alcohol soaked raisins, mollasses, light smoke and coffee. Flavor is fairly sweet maltiness, chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of alcohol. I hade none of the carbonation problems of the other raters, however I thought the palate was just a bit thin. A good beer, thought not as good as the lofty ratings might suggest, IMO. zathrus13 (1298), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, and vanilla. Flavor is roasted malt, dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, and alcohol. Tastes like an impy stout to me, but who cares. This is a fantastic brew. golubj (1287), Sunnyvale, California, USA
