Commercial Description:
Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Poured a black color with no head. aroma and flavor were of smoke, hops, chocolate, and ALCOHOL. this tasted way too boozy for 10% and made me not enjoy the beer much at all.

Bottle - Black body, thick light brown head; What an amazing nose, layer upon layer of perfect fine aromas emerge from the black deep, this is so amazing, sweet parts, dry parts, fruity parts and amazingly for its complexity it is perfectly balanced; The body is great too, soft, sharp, thin, full, big, elegant, salty, bitter, sweet and perfectly balanced; This is a black beer and it finishes perfectly black with big black aromas, smoothening out over a long long time. I dont know what more to say about this beer, I is incredibly good. Oh, if there is one very small flaw, the carbonation seems a very little to sharp or maybe it is the bitterness in the late finish that has the sharpness.

Beer pours black with a smallish dark tan head that is moderately retained. Aroma is interesting with alcohol soaked raisins, mollasses, light smoke and coffee. Flavor is fairly sweet maltiness, chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of alcohol. I hade none of the carbonation problems of the other raters, however I thought the palate was just a bit thin. A good beer, thought not as good as the lofty ratings might suggest, IMO.

Bottle. Aroma of dark fruit, toasted / roasted malt, some bourbon and chocolate. The flavor is similar with a noticable amount of alcohol. Pretty complex and tasty.

22oz bottle. Pours black with a thin light brown head. Sweet malty aroma with roasty notes, vanilla and alcohol. Roasted malt flavor with vanilla, chocolate and bourbon with a coffee and hop finish. Holy crap is this good.

Brown bottle, 1 pint 6 ounces, savoured on Elvis’ 30th death anniversary; eye: black as oil coming out of the oil pan, opaque, no effervescence, coffee head, a bit of lacing; nose: vanilla, roasted malt, black chocolate, dark small berries, light tobacco, burnt toast; mouth: sticky, thick, acrid roasting, vanilla, sugar, black chocolate, good long finale that is well balanced between the roasted malt and the hops with a hint of acridness, light astringency, more bitter than I expected, full body, not much carbonation; overall: quite enjoyable FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 1 pinte 6 onces, savourée la fête de la mort d’Elvis 2007; œil : noire comme l’huile vidangée, opaque, pas d’effervescence, mousse café, un peu de dentelle; nez : vanille, malt torréfié, chocolat noir, petits fruits foncés, léger tabac, rôtie brûlé; bouche : visqueuse, épaisse, torréfaction âcre, vanille, sucre, chocolat noir, bonne longue finale bien balancée entre la torréfaction et le houblon avec une petite pointe d’âcreté, légère astringence, beaucoup plus amère que mes attentes, corsée, peu carbonatée; en résumé : bien aimé

From 22oz Bottle. Pours a deep, dark color of prune flesh with a thin, quickly dissipating head of toasted graham cracker. Rich, succulent aromas of light chocolate and anise meld together harmoniously. As it warms, more and more aroma characteristics are unleashed. Some ripened fig and molasses give it a rich, dark fruitiness, and a touch of sweet, ripe strawberries round out the luscious aroma profile. Lush, creamy, full bodied mouthfeel. Silky smooth, delicious flavors of toasted malts, molasses, anise, and loads of chocolate - a rich, intensified duplication of the aroma sensation. Final smack of a chilled caramel espresso drink. Fabulous brew, and an amazing value too. The style designation is a bit confusing to me, but the comment about it being like a cross between a barleywine and a stout seems to be dead on. No wonder its so good!

Before I looked at this style I would have pegged this a stout. Roasted malt and plum flavors. Slight hoppy bitterness on the finish. Smooth for 10% but a little one dimensional with all the roastiness. Otherwise drinkable and enjoyable. Thanks realale420.
