Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

bomber from CaptainCougar, thanks Tom. pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a short tan head. aroma was subtle malts and maybe some vanilla and chocolate. flavor was outstanding as was the palate. flavor was some burnt malts with chocolate, a touch of oak, and just the slightest hint of bourbon. palate was buttery and smooth, not hot as some have mentioned. really nice on a sub-zero winter night.

Bottle at Magic_dave6’s disco dance tasting. Dark ruby, thin beige head. Nose is strong malts, chocolate and lots of espresso. Mouth is harsh, dark malts, some bitter chocolate. Harsh with some burn. Good, but not great.

This most certainly is not an American Strong Ale. It is a stout, plain & simple. It should be listed as such. More of an Imperial Sweet Stout, to be exact. Pours out dark brown, with a mocha colored head. Aromas are of stout, stout, & more stout. Flavors are of stout, stout, & more stout. It’s a stout. Get it?

Thanks for the bottle BOLTZ7555. This was an impressive beer. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a tan head. Roasted malt, dark fruit, oak, chocolate, a little coffee, this beer has a little bit of everything and somehow combines it all together in one hell of a 10% brew. Goes down easy. Really makes me want to try the Older Viscosity...who wants to trade me?

On tap@O’Brien’s: Pure black color with a medium light brown head. Aroma is sweet dark fruit, a hint of alcohol some light licorice and chocolate. Flavor follows aroma with light licorice and bitter dark chocolate with a hint of balsamic. Full bodied, rich and smooth with moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Can’t believe I haven’t entered this rating yet. Pours a beautiful deep viscous black with jus a little head. Aroma of Roasted Barley, Coffee, Chocolate, Wood and a hint of bourbon. Flavor is Chocolate, brown sugar, malt, coffee, a little sourness in the background and a touch of bourbon. I love this beer.

Bomber, shared four ways. Pours dark dark brown with a beige-brown colored head. Aroma has a pungent charred wood element, along with sweet vanilla, bourbon, and peat. Flavor starts with a semi-sweet bourbon essence, building in a balanced way to showcase dark chocolate, toasted wood, molasses and a bit of dark fruit (cherries?). Palate remains lighter than I expected, certainly less full than your average Imperial Stout. Overall, I’d have to say that drinking this is quite special, though I found it a bit frustrating, as it lacks the fullness of a good RIS, or the crisp body of a schwarzbier. Its kind of hard to place, I settled on “wood-aged dark beer,” and found it satisfying.
