Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of caramel, lots of earth, some spice, molasses. Tastes moderately bitter with some chocolate and lots of roast. Interesting and very much in the imperial stout meets old ale vein.

Tap at PP Solana Beach. Pitch black, dark brown head. Chewy sweet aroma, resin, plums, toasted malts and roasted grain. There is a touch of licorice and coffee as well. The flavour is incredibly roasty. There are also loads of intense sweet chewy malts. Sticky and plummy gives it the character of a Christmas pudding, but rather than remaining sweet, the palate is cleansed by massive levels of roasted barley. The roast seems to be doing a better job of balancing this than the hops, although it doesn’t lack these either. Sort of a straightforward example of a big roasty imperial stout, but it’s a well-made version. Dark brown beer, thin tan head. Aroma is very sweet and chocolatey. Dark bittersweet chocolate, caramel and sweet peppery notes. Flavour is also very dark and chocolatey. Earthy and slightly dusty with heavy roasty finish. 8 5 7 4 15

Holy crap, I’m almost to the end of the bottle and now I have to write something. What the hell can I pull out of my ass for this one? The icky sticky semi-sweet bourbon with the wonderfully resinous and charred barrel notes, or the thick, viscous and smooth texture that lingers on the tongue? I had Older Viscosity a few months back, it was heavy with the sweet, sugar maple bourbon, and while it was really good, I genuinely enjoyed it, I like this one more (though Older Viscosity did look better, so it scores a point higher)... it’s the tannic, dry nature, the charred wood, it’s like you can taste the lip of the barrel. Damn good. I will probably buy more.

Rating from a bomber picked up at Binny-apostophe-s Beverage Depot in Orland Park, Illinois. The thick brown pour turns black in the glass, capped briefly by a slender tan head that is soon reduced to a film. Spotty lace. The aroma is dark caramel, molasses, coffee, bakers chocolate, and a dash of aniseed. Same with the flavor, but burnt wood and alcohol are added. A bit astringent in the finish, but pretty decent and warming.

Very dark brown body with a small head of light tan bubbles that diminishes to a thin lid and ring; still a tiny bubbled sheet of lace on the glass. Dark fruit and malt in the aroma. Hints of dark caramel and just a whiff of bourbon vanilla. In no way overpowering, I was actually expecting much more. Quite subtle, balanced and enjoyable. Lightly oily in feel with just a bit of zip from both the tight carbonation and the alcohol. Syrup flavors in the front, followed by mild fruit cake. I’m not sold on the flavors, a bit too rough, at least what I believe to be the early stages of this ones existence. Finish has a bit of woody bitterness and some charred oak. A small fire has been kindled in the stomach. Linger has a bit of tar and burnt coffee. I’m really looking forward to my other bottle of this in a year or so. This just seem too young at the moment.

Bottle@Home. Wonderful aroma of mainly moccha. Opague colored, light brown head, oily, good lace. Light sweet, coffee, roasted, very bitter. Beautiful balance and great hops.

Bottle: Dark black, light head and lacing. Nose of sweet plum and grass, a nice malty and roasty flavor. Chocolate and coffee blend, nice caramel and maple notes and a rich body and mouthfeel. Nice alcohol and an overall pleasing balanced. Yum

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown with a moderate frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted chocolate, woody and coffee malt with a small alcohol aroma. Full body with a creamy texture. Heavy balanced toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout beer.
