Pours black with a medium lived tan head that leaves some spotty lacing. Smell is amazing. Mollasses, brown sugar, graham cracker, cookie sweetenss held in check with some rich roastiness. Smells like The Abyss.
Taste is dark dry roast, dark chocolate and a hoppy finish hiding behind all the flavorful roast. Perhaps the mildest twinge of bourbony flavor, but it melds so well with the other flavors that I wouldn’t even know its a bourbon beer. A nice light dry oak characteristic in the end as well. Looks and smells like an imperial stout, and is rich and flavorful like one, except its body is not quite as thick, perhaps, and the hops shine, yet complement the beer more than in any Imperial Stout I’ve had. Easily one of my new favorites. Thanks again Mike! craftbeerdesign (755), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

Old Viscosity does not disappoint. Lots going on here.... dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, some bitterness on the finish... a real delight to drink. also some licorice, roasted malts and the bourbon barrels really come through across the nose and finish. very full body which is even across the palate. wonderful finish... which begs you to drink more.... | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 4, 2007 Bottle. Darkest black with a brown head. The aroma is of oak, dark roasted malt and a little smoky. The flavor is not too heavy but at the same time a little syrupy-like, which I like. I taste of chocolate and dark roasted malt. It is very complex. It is definitely reminiscent of a certain North Coast Brew, but I think this one is just a little better. I thought after tasting it, it is a imperial stout. I guess I do not care what they consider it, it is just too good. What a great beer! SamGamgee (1460), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA

Aroma of burnt malt, coffee, alcohol, and brown sugar. The flavor has a lot of roasted malts, with some ashiness. Dark chocolate with some sugar, and a little vanilla/wood character. Finishes bitter, dry, and hoppy. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. There are some good flavors in here, but kinda feels like a stout with a shot of whisky in it. Drinkable in smaller doses.
rerate: 22oz bottle. Black with a lasting tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, wood, caramel, and coffee. The flavor is smooth dark chocolate and coffee with light caramel, some wood and vanilla. Almost no alcohol and medium sweetness. Full bodied but not very heavy for style. Much better than I remember and honestly ridiculously good. An imperial stout if I’ve ever seen one, and very nice. ditmier (1097), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 29, 2009 Pours a dark reddish brown, black in the glass with a small, tan head. Interesting complex aroma of chocolate, coffee, candied sugar, dark fruit, anise, and molasses. The flavor is similar, but stronger and a little spicier. Starts out sweet and stouty, but finishes sharply with coffee and hop bitterness, wood, and strong alcohol heat. Silky and thick mouthfeel with light carbonation and a peppery finish. Tastes thick and heavy, almost like an imperial stout, but finishes very sweet and caramelly. Definitely two stages of taste. Very heavy, a lot to take in. Hopcrazy (27), Washington, USA
