Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Okay, this is just a phenomenal beer. Black pour, thick short brown head, solid aroma of molasses, roasted malt, chocolate, and some hops. Strong taste of mostly the same, with leather, old wood, soy, and some alcohol in the finish. Very smooth.

Bottle: pours jet black with no head other than a very thin ring around the glass, aroma reminds me of Imperial Stouts that I have had - that strong roasted aroma and some hints of coffee and chocolate, taste is burnt, bitter dark chocolate. This is really good. I’m not sure I’d classify this as an American Strong...it’s more of an Imperial Stout to me and a damn good one at that.

From a 22 oz. bomber bottle with no bottled/freshness date, a short blurb along the left side of label, sampled at a cool cellar temperature in a chalice. Poured a dark, yes, oily, blackish brown with a foamy head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking. Aromas of toasted nutty grain, raisins, molasses, licorice and burnt chocolate, oaky, and floral hops that mingles with the alcohol. Good, moderate carbonation and a crisp, alcohol laced, creamy smooth fullish-medium bodied mouthfeel, a definite sipper. Delicious tasting and dangerously quaffable, raisins, nutty and grainy, a roasted, burnt chocolate malty bitterness, a touch of molasses, floral, spicy hops, a nice vanilla barrelness, the alcohol is there, but blends with the other flavors, warming in the palate and a dryish, roasted malty finish with a little sweet fruity alcohol lingering in the palate. This is a very enjoyable brew on any level, tasty and balanced, a wonderful strong ale, well worth seeking out and trying.

Bomber on 7/5/07. Many thanks to WeeHeavySD for this one. This poured out an nearly opaque black-brown with a long lasting dark tan head. Invitingly complex aroma of chocolate, espresso, molasses, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is rich, thick, with low carboantion and some astringency. Dark, burnt caramel sweetness offset by a subdued bitterness. Finishes dry, but not really too bitter. Very enjoyable.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm, 10 Sep 2009) Dark brown colour, almost black. Brief, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of dark chocolate, black coffee and a touch of juniper berries. Roasted, malty taste with dark fruit, chocolate, black coffee, liquorice, dark cherries and a long, slightly vinous finish with juniper berries and warming alcohol. Full body with a smooth mouthfeel and a slightly oily texture. Some sweetness throughout and a balanced but ever present cocoa/coffee bitterness lurking in the darkness. Very complex beer with lots of different flavours, but all kept in harmony and brilliant balance. Lovely beer!

This is an excellent brew. Pours a deep reddish brown with frothy light tan head. Has similarities with imp stout, barleywine, and old ales. Roasted malt, bread, milk chocolate, chestnuts, plums and hints of dark fruit, licorice, oak vanilla, and hints of cocoa and floral hops. The hops are not sharp or bitter, but instead meld nicely into the rich malt. The mouthfeel is soft and rich. Wonderfully silky. Great beer.
