Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Okay, this is just a phenomenal beer. Black pour, thick short brown head, solid aroma of molasses, roasted malt, chocolate, and some hops. Strong taste of mostly the same, with leather, old wood, soy, and some alcohol in the finish. Very smooth.

Wow. One hell of an imperial stout. I almost like it better than Older... I said almost. Pours a mean-looking black with a tan head. Nose is chicory, semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, some oak and barrel vanilla notes, and some slight booze. Flavor is awesome: chocolate takes center stage with the rest of the flavors as supporting cast. I get overripe dark fruit, chocolate, slightly subtle vanilla and oak, whiskey, and coffee with licorice. Gentle carbonation and a silky mouthfeel also contribute to this masterpiece. Outstanding imperial stout. It burns with some alcohol as it goes down, and lingers with chocolate and whiskey.

650 ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a very dark brown that absolutely no light will shine thru. I held a flashlight up to the glass, and nothing. Head is a rich tan and fades very slowly. Aroma is strong and rich with soy sauce, oranges, worcestershire, and burnt toast. Flavor is complex with coffee, chocolate, molasses, black licorice, walnuts, and toasted grains. Hops are well integrated and make a biter appearance only towards the finish. Mouthfeel is very creamy and smooth. Finish is long and gloroius. Overall this is a beer for the ages.

Bottle. Thick black body, tan head. Massive aroma of chocolate, vanilla, rich malts, with smokey bourbon notes. Sweet, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, a touch of alcohol as it warms. Sticky thick mouthfeel, not cloying at all, the carbonation is smooth and leaves this creamy. Drying from the roast and residual hop bitterness. Killer. Bourbon notes in perfect balance with the rest.

500ml bottle purchased in October of 2008 in Seattle...opened in August of 2009 in Madison. RATING 1000!! Opaque black with a brown-beige head. Deep toffee and licorice aroma, perhaps some alcohol-laced prunes as well. The carbonation has mellowed out just a pinch from the aging. Sandy, dry, and bitter hops coat the thick malt body. The sublime bourbon barrel taste almost works like a bridge between the thick, brown-sugary malt and the solid West Coast hop bill, smoothing it out with it’s deep, syrupy sweetness. An excellent beer, world class all the way.

Another bottle scored from Monument by DTM. This one should be billed as a stout, but apparently falls in with the strong ales. The brew was nice and thick with quality cocoa flavor. Smooth from start to finish and slightly complex flavor. Excellent to say the least!

Bottle. Can’t believe I haven’t entered this rating yet. Pours a beautiful deep viscous black with jus a little head. Aroma of Roasted Barley, Coffee, Chocolate, Wood and a hint of bourbon. Flavor is Chocolate, brown sugar, malt, coffee, a little sourness in the background and a touch of bourbon. I love this beer.

A opaque black colored beer, with a thick foamy dark beige head. The aroma of chocolate, with dark fruits and roasted malts. The taste of pure chocolate, with hints of vanilla. Dark fruits, roasted malts, some liqourice flavors. Bitter with notes of sweet. The aftertaste of chocolate with liqourice lingers on.
