Bottle: Raisons, dates, pine, chocolate and a number of other great aromas; very roasty with lots of espresso and chocolate, burnt caramel, licorice, and pine finish; thick, creamy and slightly oily palate; nice, smooth and assertive bitter finish. Warm, but not hotly alcoholic at 10% abv. This beer rocks.

Pours an opague black body with a good sized brown merangue-like head. The aroma is black cherries, raisins, and roasted malts. Flavor starts a bit sweet with cherries and raisins with some smoked peat present, followed with a huge shot of chocolate expresso. Very mild bourbon and oak in the finish. Thicker bodied than a lot of Imperial Stouts.

22oz bottle. Poured a dark black color with a smaller sized tan head. Aromas of caramel, cherries, raisins, prunes, roast, and chocolate. Tastes of dark fruits, roast, bitter chocolate, vanilla, wood and caramel. Light to medium alcohol burn in the finish.

Wow! This poured very dark, kind of like motor oil ;)Dark body, almost no head. thin tan ring, nose was malty with hints of chocolate and bourbon. Some sweet ness and hint of%. now I catch trace molasses and vanilla, now brown sugar, This nose is deep, complex, and endless. Well, there was chocolate, almost like a Hershey’s syrup mixed with the alcohol warming and bite of a strong ale. I could almost call this a porter or stout, Mouth was thick, very full. The small amount of carbonation carried the taste all over. There was some bourbon, really settled in my nasal passages. Thank you SS, I am really loving this, and I am very glad to be part of this site and to have had the chance to enjoy this. PS strange, my bottle says %10?

Bottle. Poured a blackish-brown color with a thick brown head. A very nice aroma of vanilla and bourbon. Maybe even a little hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel is pretty nice, although not as full as the pour led me to believe it would be. Flavor is also not really what I thought it’d be. It was more of a porter or chocolate stout than a Strong Ale, in my opinion. There wasn’t really that much bourbon flavor to it. Although this is a good beer (a really good beer), the flavor didn’t stack up to the aroma and appearance.

22oz. bottle, has to be well over a year old now. Roasty, dark, sweet malt aroma, with appetizing notes of chocolate truffle, plummy fruit, lightly smoky wood, maple sugar and very faint bourbon, along with some background coffee and slight medicinal alcohol. Now this stuff really is the color and consistency of well-used motor oil, there have been other brews to cross my path and lay that claim and they’ve fallen short, but not this one. Head fades to nothingness after a short period, while the bottom of the bottle is coated with sediment after the pour. Flavor profile is dark and roasty to start, becoming sweeter and blended with berryish fruit and licorice, finishing with a blend of earthy bitterness, slight bourbon, aged wood, toffee, gentle but insistent alcohol and lingering espresso. Very smooth and low in effervescence on the palate but has a full, sticky, warming mouthfeel to it and a massively rich body. Very interesting, tasty and complex, ultimately, with some Imperial Porter-like characteristics. Nice.

On tap@O’Brien’s: Pure black color with a medium light brown head. Aroma is sweet dark fruit, a hint of alcohol some light licorice and chocolate. Flavor follows aroma with light licorice and bitter dark chocolate with a hint of balsamic. Full bodied, rich and smooth with moderate carbonation.

An exceptionally dark pour with a nice thick tan head that lasts a good while. some artistic lacing. A very nice aroma offers chocolate, dark fruit and light chocolate notes. Flavor is big and aggressive with a mouth full of chocolate, coffee along with dark fruit, alcohol, anise
