Roasty, dark, sweet malt aroma, with appetizing notes of chocolate truffle, plummy fruit, lightly smoky wood, maple sugar and very faint bourbon, along with some background coffee and slight medicinal alcohol. Now this stuff really is the color and consistency of well-used motor oil, there have been other brews to cross my path and lay that claim and they’ve fallen short, but not this one. Head fades to nothingness after a short period, while the bottom of the bottle is coated with sediment after the pour. Flavor profile is dark and roasty to start, becoming sweeter and blended with berryish fruit and licorice, finishing with a blend of earthy bitterness, slight bourbon, aged wood, toffee, gentle but insistent alcohol and lingering espresso. Very smooth and low in effervescence on the palate but has a full, sticky, warming mouthfeel to it and a massively rich body. Very interesting, tasty and complex, ultimately, with some Imperial Porter-like characteristics. Nice. papajohn (1055), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA

Pours a deep deep brown hue with a light tan head. Aromas of a dark fruits (raisins, figs), caramel, a light chocolate note. Flavors of the same with with a nice old hop note. With name, one would think this would be a barleywine, but with the color, aroma and flavors, it’s almost an imperial stout. It seems almost like a hybrid, and I am very excited ti see this being bottled. Pizza port will take over the world. The new bottles say 10% alc. though.....not the almighty 12%. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA

Seems like an excellent candidate for a cellar as it’s deep and rich and high octane super sludge. Seemed a bit easier going when having a sample after many at tasting as opposed to drinking bomber by myself - holy shit this packs a wallop. Each sip brings a hint of a bit more of this or that, be it chocolate, hops, alcohol or whatnot
