| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2007 Dark, oily, molasses, kind of aroma. Reminiscent of Harviestoun Old Engine Oil. Nearly opaque brown/black color with a tan head that rapidly ringed. Medium to full bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavors are disparate, but the alcohol heat is noticeable. There is dark toasted malt, coffee, cocoa, molasses, really overripe dark fruit, mouth puckering, enough bitter to balance the sweetness, at least mostly balance. There might be some cherry notes. This stuff gets thicker as you drink it. The finish is like oiliness that adheres to the mouth. It really sticks with you at the end - mostly bitter with some molasses. Quite complicated. But burnt organics usually are. Mouthsmackingly good. JohnC (2286), Mission Viejo, California, USA

This brew has absolutely perfect mouthfeel: silky smooth. The flavors and aromas are explosions of chocolate. Loved it. kmeves (1081), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Pours a dark oily black with a medium tan head with decent lacing. Aroma of sweet toffee, coffee and spice. Flavor has plenty of roasted coffee, burnt malts, hints of piney hops, vanilla. Finish is dry and roasted finish, not long and not short. Full mouthfeel, average carbonation. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA

It’s a bit hot with the alcohol, but this is fairly rich, a little chocolate, rum raisins. Nice body, but this would probably age nicely. radiomgb (2068), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 27, 2009 Black in colour with a thin tan coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is malty, rich, chocolate, dates, raisins, lots of burnt christmas fruit cake and light alcohol. The flavour has some alcohol, chocolate malts, lightly sweet, some fruit cake and raisins. Alcoholic warming mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long and quite warm.
This was fairly alcoholic. An Imperial Porter? Black barley wine? It okay as it is but wouldn’t hurt mellowing out a bit.
I got to try this again an it really has started to mellow out. Nice beer all round. Rating went from 3.5 to 4.0
650ml bottle obtained in a trade with Boutip, thanks Phil.

Deep, dark brown (completely opaque) with a light brown head. The aroma and flavor had tones of milk chocolate, prunes, cherries, alcohol, and a genlte roastiness. The feel was thick, very wet, with medium carbonation. Very nice beer. WISEGUY572 (1246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Great chocolate nose, black pour with a layer of light brown bubbles passing for a head. Taste of coffee, chocolate, rye, dark sweet malts, long bitter grapefruit hops, and an alcohol warmth that cannot be fully hidden by the complexity of the flavors. Good round mouth feel. I admit that I am a sucker for chocolatey hoppy stouts, and this may not be everybody’s favorite.
