This tastes more like a stout (reminiscent of Bell’s Expedition) than an ale. It is wonderful! I concur with most of the descriptive adjectives below and won’t repeat them. The label is a hoot! Kind of pricey (8 bucks), but worth it.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Wow, what a brew. Pours a dark, ruby brown with a chunky, tan head. The aroma is that of dark, bitter chocolate. Flavors of chocolate, dark roasted coffee with a thick, oily body that just explodes with dark roasted malts. A complex, flavorful beer that finishes dry and bitter. Very delicious. evergreen0199 (278), London, Greater London, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Bottle from Beer Merchants UK. Jet black pour with a big frothy creamy beige head which stays throughout. Aroma of chocolate and hops. Very creamy heavy beer. Surprisingly easy to drink, nicely hopped, almost steak taste. I really liked this beer from Port Brewing.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Dark brown, nearly black & opaque color with thin tan head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma is of clean, fresh brown bread, and refrigerated dark chocolates.
Palate is offered an initial pleasing roasty sweetness that quickly builds in chocolate and then an alcoholicy bitterness component at the top that bleeds into the finish. Body is medium, perhaps on the thinner side for a beer of this alcohol %.
Finish has a lingering toffee alcohol dryness. punkrkr27 (639), Berkley, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Near black pour with ruby highlights and little head. This was just bitter with burnt caramel with a hint of port and brandy. Body is full with low carbonation. Reminded me of cheap Christian Bros. brandy. The bourbon barrels of the Older add a lot more depth and complexity that this beer really needs to smooth and round out the roughness of it. potbeercollege (386), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Bomber. Medium black with chocolate brown head. Aroma of burnt chocolate, roastedness and very light coffee notes, overall is sweet. Taste is bold to say the least and is of bitter and sweet chocolate and has lots of malt depth. asheft (1438), Marburg, Germany

Nice sweet pumpernickel aroma with good vanilla oak. Opaque black and viscous with a tan ring that leaves dots on the glass. Very pleasant sweet vanilla and mocha malt with a good balance of dark malt bitterness and hazlenut notes. Medium body, medium carbonation, slightly warming, lingering dark malt bitter. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 2, 2009 Pours a big 2 finger chocolate head. Body is thick and pitch black, pours more like port than a beer. Head retention and lacing are above average
Aroma is of rich, sweet chocolate syrup. There is also smell of oak mixed with some alcohol. Not much hops are detected at all but there is some licorice or anise coming through as the beer warms up.
First taste is of sweet chocolate malts. Very malty beer with abit of roasted coffee in there also. Hops are very low and alcohol isnt too overpowering for 10 percent. There is an aftertaste of fruit like raisin or dried prune similar to that of doppelbocks.
Mouth feel is good. Body is nice and thick and carbonation is enough to balance it out nicely. Wish the head contributed more to body but it died halfway through the glass
Over all it is good. For such a strong beer it wasnt too difficult to finish a bomber. Pretty good beer, slightly different version of a stout, prefer Older viscosity but this one is good too
