The first scent to hit the nose is Bourbon followed by dark chocolate, dark dried fruit, roasted malt, dark caramel, cold coffee, and charred wood. Oily mouthfeel. Amazingly drinkable, everything from the nose blending together smoothly. Where’s the alcohol? NobleSquirrel (1106), Chicago, Illinois, USA

A huge beer, big and thick body with one of the most interesting noses ever. Nose was first and foremost chocolate chip cookie dough, followed by bourbon, some toffee and a touch of roast. Taste was nice, had a ton of chocolate, but bittersweet. Huge body, hid the alcohol super well. There were some chocolate covered-raisins in there, too, I swear!. Damn, can I have another please? dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA

Pours almost black with red edges. A small fizzy off-white head that soon disappears. Great, full aroma. Tobacco, caramel, wood, roasted malts, red whine, port, raisins. Some slight cherries as well. Really complex and wonderful. Medium carbonation with very small bubbles - fine oily mouthfeel. Flavour is truly stunning. A hideous amount of chocolate, well-balanced viniousness. Raisins, slight tartness from wood. The tobacco notes are still there with roasted malts mixed in as well. Extremely long aftertaste. This is insanely drinkable despite the high ABV. It is truly a great brew (sad it can’t hold a head). Thanks, Tom! Sparky27 (1588), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours a dark reddish brown with a small light tan head and very little lacing. Nose is rich with a lot of bourbon, baker’s chocolate and molasses. Taste is roasted molasses, vanilla, oaky bourbon and burnt malts. Medium mouth feel. Good brew. cgarvieuk (4178), Edinburgh, Scotland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 15, 2008 Bottle at home ... deep black ... medium tan head ...rich sweet meaty malt nose with a little whiskey ... big bourbon front... too much bourbon ... it domintaes way to much and distroys its balance... behind the bourbon is a decent rich roast malt. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 1, 2008 Thanks to Hank1980 for the bottle! Black, tan head reduces to cloudy ring layer. Vanilla, bourbon, and wood are sledgehammers on the nose. Flavor is more nuanced, vanilla and dried fruit coupled with more alcohol thanks to a larger bourbon component. Salty and thick, palate seems to lack something; maybe it’s too short? Good stuff though, very nice on a cold autumn night. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Bottle from my brother (Vac). Pours black with a very thin tan head (basically just a ring). Big bourbon and oak aromas with a backing of malt. The flavor finds chocolate, vanilla, butterscotch, bourbon, and oak in a wonderful blend. Full smooth body with a slight alcohol warming. Excellent!!
