Sampled at the brewery for RBSG 08. Pours a deep black with a small tan head that fades into a ring. Huge bourbon-malt aroma, sweet, sharp, and a bit boozy. Big sweet malt taste, with wood and bourbon notes, and a lot of alcohol. Lingering sweet malt-bourbon flavors. Delicious.

Bottle, thought I would start the next 1000 with a goodie, this being #1001. Alexanderj got me a bottle of this awhile ago, but I recently acquired a new one... I am drinking the new one and saving the one from alexanderj. Black pour with some tan head. Aroma is nice vanilla bourbon, some sweet toffee, and chocolate malt. The flavor is the same, the sweetness of the toffee like malt is rich and provides excellent balance to the bourbon / vanilla. Its a very nice bourbon aged beer.

Pours like old, old motor oil. Licorice and and molasses aroma, with a very distinctive licorice and baker’s chocolate flavor.

Inky black-brown pour with a short lived tan head. Intense aromas of vanilla extract, bourbon, and sweet malt. Flavor is well balanced and not overpowering, with sweet vanilla, bourbon, and a hint of oak on the finish. Very smooth and rich. This is a truly extraordinary beer!

Very dark brown body with a small but lasting beige head; Excellent nose, very settled, very balanced and super welcoming, layer upon layer upon layer of notes topped by a fruity whiskey touch; The body is the super full, dense overly complex Old Viscosity body with a fruity part added, AMAZING!!!!; It finishes long with a deep smooothness, again balanced perfectly by a fruity whiskey bite. AMAZING BEER!!!!!!!

Wow. This one was an incredible treat. Bottle at a PB/LA tasting at Brouwer’s (Tomme Arthur present). I spent a good few minutes savoring the aroma before the first sip. It reminded me of a cross between a dusty attic and a sauna. Oak (lots of it), bourbon (perhaps a bit of scotch), sweet malts, dark brown sugar, vanilla and smoke come through in the aroma. The taste adds powerful notes of cocoa and coffee, with spices and just a tad of black licorice at the end. Like its name suggests, this one is almost chewably thick. It drinks like a port, but is amazingly smooth and finishes incredibly clean. The carbonation manages to keep it from actually feeling like a motor oil, and the oak from those barrels comes through more with each sip. So glad I got to try this one - just wonderful.

RERATE 08-09-09. Secret tap @ Brouwer’s (off the menu). Boozier than I remember. Flavor and aroma profiles are the same, and it’s as thick as I remember. More cocao, and lots more bourbon. Still wonderful, especially from the tap... but I’m docking a point for the booze.

0.375L bottle. Wow. What an enticing aroma. I just soaked up the aroma for about 4 minutes before tasting it. Incredibly smooth bourbon and oak aroma with a bit of alcohol. Delicious and smooth flavor with hints of wood, chocolate, and smoke. Thanks to Randy for sharing.

Pours almost a pitch black color with a very small off white head. Aroma is of vanilla, coffee, bitter chocolate, and bourbon. Flavor was a lot more mellow than I was expecting. The bourbon and the chocolate, really melded well together with a hint of vanilla sweetness, and a nice alcohol burn in the swallow. I liked this way better than the regular.
