Not much carbonation, and little to no head. Aroma is loaded with bourbon, and it adds such a wicked vanilla to the aroma. Lots of chocolate, espresso, molasses, raisins, and dark fruit. Flavour is very very smooth, and a tad boozey. Again, loads of bourbon vanilla notes along with more of the same from the aroma. Just an amazing sipper of a beer, i loved it. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

If gods would make engine oil out of ambrosia, this would be it!! this is black gold. Aromas of bourbon, dark bitter chocolate, black truffles, gone off treacle, burnt sugar, and cardamom. This has such complex flavours it’s hard to pin-point. and i’ve resigned myself to enjoying it rather than wrecking my brain and taste-bud! this is just devine. really liked the lingering blood (iron) aftertaste, but that’s just me.. brentfeesh (1038), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2008 Bottle thanks to Araucuna. Enjoyed at Noog4. Dark black maple pour. The aroma has molasses, sassafras, caramelized sugars, cola and wood. Fairly complex. The flavor is Big! Deep caramelized molasses, wood, alcohol, bourbon, light butter, and all blended together in an enjoyable way. Creamy slick mouth feel. Good stuff. bhensonb (4253), Woodland, California, USA

Very dark brown color with ruby notes in the depths. A vigorous tan head that didn’t last long. Anise, dark roasted malt, bourbon/vinous, plums, and arguably a lot more. A little heat is noticeable. It is a bit tarry, has wood, near burnt malt, espresso, cooked plums. Oak seems to develop with time. A tad rough, but quite a taste treat. jcwattsrugger (5273), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 8, 2008 12.7oz bottle-pours a retaining thin brown head with good retention for alcohol and black color. Aroma is dark malt-licorice/some chocolate, sharp-acidic, wood-bourbon, tar, some dark fruit. Smells awesome but occasional for my preference. Taste is first carbonation on the tongue with a hops bite, then dark malt-licorice/some chocolate/coffee, sharp-acidic, wood-bourbon, tar, some dark fruit. Occasional, but nice. Found this one standing alone at Monument Liquors. Poured brown, less viscous than its predecessor. Very oaky flavor - reminded me of Dark Knight. Almost a bourbon nose. Very smooth, with notes of chocolate, vanilla, oak, wood and a little wisp of alcohol. Quite amazing - drink at cellar. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 4, 2008 375ml Bottle @ Monk’s Cafe. Blackish pour with a light tan head. Aroma is a wonderful bourbon-oak-vanilla mix with some chocolate and barrell essence. Flavor has a really nice combination of oak and vanilla with bourbony-coffee, chocolate, and some darker fruit maybe? Really smooth and nice mouthfeel. I was surprised how much more I liked this beer over the regular Old Viscosity - I was thinking that this would need more time based on the heavy alcohol taste in the standard version but this is smooth and delicious. Another great PP/LA beer from Tomme!
