cbkschubert (1721), Rattlesnake Country, Arizona, USA Feb 2, 2008 375 ml bottle - Pours a dark brown color with a 3/4 finger thick tan head. Very light lacing. Aroma is oak/bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and some dark esters. Flavor is the same with the addition of a touch of coffee. This beer smells and taste great! Medium to full body. The esters and bourbon linger on the palate. Slight alcohol warming. An excellent sippin’ beer.
GeneralGao (2726), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 3, 2009 FoBAB 2008. Poured an opaque black color. The head was light brown with an orange tint. Smelled of chocolate, subdued anise, vanilla, bourbon, and a dash of cocoa. Medium to full bodied and slightly sweet. The flavors followed the aromas pretty closely; bourbon, toffee, a hint of anise, and vanilla. Good stuff. bb (2320), Martinez, California, USA Dec 31, 2008 Bottle. Black beer with reddish highlights and a tan head. Bourbon and caramel malt aroma. Bourbon and toffee flavor with malt and vanilla. Fuller bodied. Bourbon and toffee lingers with a light roastiness. VikingHammer (293), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Dec 23, 2008 On draught at the EBF 08 in Boston,Ma. Awesome beer. One of my favorites at the show. Thanks to all the guys at Lost Abbey. Wish I could remember enought to rate it properly. fidel (400), Livermore, California, USA Dec 8, 2008 Black, rich, creamy, dark fruits, bourbon, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, coffee, roasted malts, molasses, alcohol, little nutty, slight hop finish. ElDuderino (48), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Dec 1, 2008 Bottle, compliments of vAc. Pours a dark coppery brown with an very thin off-white head. The smell is full of sweet butter pecan toffee and thick heavy smoke. Maybe a hint of tobacco layered in with the oak and smokey notes. From the smell I expected a much more powerful or jarring sensation on the palate but the body is extremely smooth and silky, with just the slightest alcohol soak. The flavor bursts with toffee, dark fruit and, of course, a strong oaky bourbon taste. Really a treat.
