Tasted 2009-12-26. 2009 bottle. Pours pitch black with no head. Smokey port wine aroma. Tastes like a mix of a 30 year old tawny port and a smoked porter. It works big time. Drink it not like a beer but like a dessert wine. Treat it properly, and it’s a great drink.

Courtesy Secret Santa- thanks man! What a complex and delicious beer...where to begin? The aroma was a huge chocolate/vanilla mix with a heavy oak presence. Pour was a deep dark black with no head or bubbles. Taste was incredibly complex. Dark chocolate with vanilla are strong with the oak and bourbon heavy in the aftertaste. Each sip throughout the whole beer was different. Only downfall to this beer was the fact that it was completely flat. A little carbonation would’ve gone a long way, but the great complex flavor more than made up for it. Delicious!

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Black with a thin light brown head. Aroma is mostly bourbon barrel with underlying malts, prune, raisin, chocolate. Taste is fantastic; cacao, oak, alcohol, roasted malt, bourbon, earth. Overall a very well done bourbon barrel aged beer. Hell yes.

375ml bottle, 2009 release, from the lost abbey tasting room. pours an oily black with almost no head but a thin ring of brown bubbles leaving a bit of lacing. aroma is great with big notes of caramel malts, toffee, chocolate, and fine bourbon with notes of raisin bread, Myer’s rum, prune, date, and cinnamon cookies. flavor is delicious with big, oaked bourbon notes up front with chocolate malt, buttery toffee, vanilla, raisin, and more rum notes coming through late. palate is full bodied and contrary to popular belief i did find this to be CARBONATED, albeit very lightly, with a long, woody bourbon finish. overall, a damn nice brew.

Sampled at the ORF tasting thanks to whoever brought it! Looks great. Dark and syrupy. Aroma of bourbon, soy, roasted malt. Taste was basically the same... soy, bourbon, lots of booze. Nice brew but something was off for me

Near black pour with no head. Massive bourbon aroma with soy, black strap molasses, huge smoke note and lots of volatile alcohol. The flavor is overwhelming charred oak, vanilla, soy sauce, and bitter dark chocolate. The body is syrupy with low carbonation. Man, this beer is just HUGE.
