Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged version of Port Brewing Santas Little Helper.
2009 will be the inaugural release of this winter time classic. After brewing the 2008 batch of Santa’s we thought “wonder what this would taste like aged in a bourbon barrel?”

Dark brown with some reddish hints and almost no carbonation. Aroma is quite pleasant - lots of vanilla, wood, bourbon, chocolates, and a bit of creaminess. Flavor is quite nice with lots of vanilla, chocolate, and a light woody bourbon that is of high quality. Mouthfeel is nice with a little sting. Wood & base beer are very well integrated. It seems easy to shit on LA these days with the carbonation issues, etc. but this is spot on for me as far as aroma/flavor for a BA stout. I dinged it for having no carbonation, but it wouldn’t need much to match up with a BCS or similar top notch BA impy stout. Very nice regardless of carbonation level.

Pours utterly black with no real head. Only slight brown at the edges. Aroma is pure bourbon, roasted malts, dark chocolate, plums and blackberries. Very low carbonation, fat and oily mouthfeel. Flavour is super sweet at first; almost sugary. Bourbon, vanilla, lots of English liqourice, roasted and dark chocolate. Soft oaky tartness. Probably just a bit too much of everything.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of FlacoAlto - Pours a dark brown color with a momentary, aggressively poured, faint bubbly tan head. No lacing. Aroma is big oak and bourbon. There is some light roasted malt, chocolate, and vanilla as it warms. The flavor is a little more balanced. Has a good bit of roasted malt, dark esters, chocolate, and vanilla. Oh yeah, there is some oak/bourbon in there too! Medium to full body. The alcohol is noticeable, but not overbearing. The roastiness and esters linger on the palate. Just wish it had just even a small amount of carbonation. Still, a very good beer. Thanks Sebastian.

Bottle generously shared by GMCC2181 at SL. Pour was deep pitch black, minimal head and lacing. The aroma was chocolate, some sort of a spice, and bourbon. The flavor was bourbon, vanilla, oak, rich chocolate and cocoa, caramel, and molasses. Mouthfeel was oily, slick, a tad cloying, flat. A nice brew, but another "bourbon" brew a tad too bourbon-y. Nonetheless, thanks much, Gabe!!! Wish I could have arrived earlier. Needed a little pick-me-up help this Christmas, for my good friend out West! This worked.

Bottle from HH22 and WeeheavySD. Shared at Stateline, not even a "fizz" once I popped the top off. Flat black in color, no head. Taste is a little coffee, malty, bourbon with lots of roasted malts.... Texture is slick and oily, no carbonation but not flat? Kind of wierd... Still a nice beer overall. Just a little carbonation would of helped it.

Bottle courtesy of mar. Dark brown color. No head whatsoever. Very large whisky smell with sharp sweet malts. Some roasted notes. Taste has a sharp bourbon taste with a roasted flavoring. Smooth feeling with a small bit of tingle.
