Bomber. Pours dark and oily with full tan head, and good carbonation working up the sides of the glass. Aroma is cocoa and bourbon. Flavor is very interesting. Starts out like bitter baker’s chocolate, then goes full on burning, astringent alcohol, but only for the barest of moments before becoming like coffee and kahlua. Nicely balanced at the end and overall a good representation of the style. Not overly complex, and perhaps still a bit immature, but a nice offering indeed.

10oz Draft at Craft Ale House. Dark body with a white head that dissipates quickly. This is an extremely well balanced stout that is light and crisp with a hint and after taste of sugar. ABV is completely hidden in the robustly deep and complex taste of the beer. But don’t get me wrong this beer will tighten you up quickly. It is a must have as are many of Ports beers. Happy holidays!

22 oz. bottle from Full Throttle Bottles. Head is off-white, but fades away rather quickly. Looks like a pretty good beer to me. The added sugar really makes for a sugary malt aroma. Not so much of a coffee, roast, or anything that I would expect from an imperial stout. Some sweet chocolate aroma coming from this. Not as aromatic as I would like it to be, but still a very interesting aroma. Ok, the roast is staring to pop out a little bit, but not along the lines of what I would like to see (smell). Wow, that roast flavor is just ridiculous. A hop roast flavor just dominates my tastebuds. Where was this huge roast flavor in the aroma? Wow, very complex roast flavor that just hits every tastebud. Nice smooth beer. Not the most nuanced beer, but the roast flavor is simply wonderful. Touches of chocolate and coffee are coming through. NIce hop finish.

Not bad. I had some homemade excellent peanut brittle beforehand so I guess my tasting apparatus is biased. Nonetheless. Poured with a smallish off white head and a bit of lace. Color is a nice clear walnut. Aroma is malty and hoppy. Flavor is fairly bitter and not all that well balanced. Some heavy dark bitter syrup. Body is ok and so is carbonation. Finish is ok. Not my fav flav combo. Not so sure it’d work too well for cooking. Session beer --- mmm maybe, proly not.

22oz bottle ’09 Vintage (Binny’s- Downers Grove)-Pours black with a big loose tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Taste of the same with burnt flavors on the back end. This is a full bodied well balanced brew that hides the ABV very well. Nicely done.

22 oz bottle pours nearly black, modest head with a little lacing. Alcohol present in the aroma with malt, taste strongly alcohol. Good, but not well balanced.

My wife got me this beer....I’m guessing because of the name. It was an ok stout with a not too good aftertaste.

Draft at teresas with pat. Pours a thick, syrupy black body with no head. Aroma is chocolate and brown sugar, wood too. Taste is chocolate malt, chocolate, cocoa, some bitterness and warming alcohl towards the finish.

Thick pour to a black body and tan head. Roasty smell, hint of chocolate taste with a fantastic malty finish. One of the better winter beers available this year
