anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden May 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small fast disappearing off-white head. Has a fruity malty dark fruit aroma with some hints of caramel and some hints of orange. Sweetish fruity malty dark fruit and caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a sweetish malry warming dark fruit finish with hoppy hints in the aftertaste. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 11, 2009 bomber - pours dark orange with faint haze; slight tan head in small bubbles on the edges; aromas of sugar, orange peels, bread and caramel; creamy texture and quite dry overall; spice, sugar and alcohol - but no heat; dig the thick, sugary nose; nothing outstanding, but very sold trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 22, 2009 On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver 09. Pours a murky, muddy reddish brown, with a thick head. Malts and dark fruits dominate, with a very bitter backbone to the flavor. Acerbic bitter, not the nice, friendly hop bitterness I’m used to. Hugely bitter aftertaste, with some oak showing through (this version was labeled as "Aged in French Oak". Good stuff, but the harsh bitterness got to me. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 16, 2009 Bomber. Poured deep, hazy coppery brown with little head and lost of sediment. The aroma picked up aged caramel, tobacco, and dark fruits with some passion fruit and herbal surroundings.. warm and inviting. The flavor had caramel again at the core paired with some licorice and anise.. the fruit showed in the form of bitterness on the eges.. herbal notes and tobacco again through the finish.. ended with boozed-up (yet still balanced) spices and dark residual sugars. Heavier-bodied and grainy on the palate with a syrupy feel across the middle.. quite well executed, and I’d have another! Aroma: Strong Oak aroma with caramel, and hops in the nose.
Appearance: Amber in color, clear with a thin head.
Flavor: A good amount of malts and hops this was a very nice oak aged barley wine.
Palate: Sweet with a dry oaky finish.
Overall: One of the best I have had in a long time this was brewed very nice.
killjoy966 (215), Washington, USA Jan 15, 2009 First thing I notice about this barley wine is that it tastes incredibly smooth. Looks a bit like motor oil, with very little head. Smells very malty with a hint of of smoke or firewood. If this was the first barley wine I had ever had, I may have rated it higher, but there is just not as much complexity as with other barley wines. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Oct 10, 2008 Pours dark brown with no head, just like the picture! Aroma is vinous with dark fruits, vanilla, brown sugar. Flavors of dark over ripe fruit, vanilla and moderate hoppy bitterness in the finish. Not my favorite of the fest. Somewhat hot alcoholic finish. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 8, 2008 dark brown with a brown head.i get brown sugar, caramel malt, and a slight hop bite.
