Thanks to Suttree for this one. A rusty red pour. Excellent aroma of dried fruits and hops. A fruity cherry flavor that fades to a date flavor. Carbonation is good but the palate is just a tad thin. A smooth full bodied BW. thanks Phil

Pours dark ruby with murky brown hues. A dense, tan head of a half-inch rose up at the finish of a stretch pour. A very nice cascade of ultra-fine bubbles made it happen. Aromatics are laced with dark fruit, crystal malt, and figgy butterscotch. Red wine and a bit of nougat rounds out the nose. Mouthfeel is medium, but somewhat chewy and sticky. The pallet is decidedly english, but bigger. Plenty of fruit-laden malt character, and warming alcohol. Bitterness is firm and assertive enough to stave off the residuals. Some toasted malt comes forward as it warms up, as well of plenty of vineous complexity. Almost boozy, but not quite. Finishes with some mild citrus oils and lingering alcohol-laden malt. A good canditate for cellaring.

Thanks to Suttree for sharing this at decaturstevo’s tasting. A fleeting off-white head forms over a medium brown body. Complex aroma of dried fruits and caramel. Sweet fruit flavor that follows the aroma. Decent Barleywine.

Sampled at Stevofest 08, courtesy of Suttree. Pours a rusty reddish brown with a beige head. Wonderful aroma of sweet dark caramel and maple syrup. Medium to full bodied. Nice rich caramelized malt flavor, with some accents of cherry and smoke. Non aggressive bitterness to balance this one out. Solid and easy to drink.

Bottle at stevo’s. Pours dark rust color with small ivory head. The aroma is very fruity- prune, plum, apple- with lots of dark caramel, some molasses, and bubblegum. The flavor is sugary caramel with a touch of bubblegum and some autumnal burning leaves. Pretty good stuff.

Mahogany, no head. Very caramelly aroma, with a notes of fruit and smoke. Flavor is molasses at first, then a nice hop bite. Tastes prety much exactly like it smells. Some smokey flavors, some sweet and hoppy. maybe some cherry notes, too. Sampled at Stevofest.

22. Pours nearly (but not quite) black with a thick and moussy, almost creamy tan head. Before long, it’s just a slim rim with wisps of lace. Big sweet nose--caramel, vanilla, gingerbread, brown sugar. That right away gets me curious about aging this one. It’s already got a wee bit of must to the nose, though, so maybe not. Medium, slightly creamy body, with a bit of present carb. Mid-palate shows all the sweet notes from the aromatics. The finish comes up into a light blossom of spicy, peppery hop.

old ratings: 7/4/7/3/15 - 3.6. 8/3/7/4/16 - 3.8. pours brown with a red tint, small tan head, and good lacing. smell is sweet, caramel, malt, few spices, some alcohol, and some dark fruit. taste is creamy, smooth, dark fruit, carmel, touch of chocolate, and spiced rum, ends slightly dry and bitter.
