Bottle shared by Styles. Clearish toffee brown-red body, thin buff head. Aroma of toffee and burnt caramels and a splash of prune and plum, with modest earthy hops. Toasty body with burnt notes, sweet caramel, and toffee, all somewhat oxidized. Moderate tartness. Earthy, bitter finish. Thins after a few sips.

Bottles from Pitonka and 5000. Dark mahogany with minimla head. Big caramel and toffee up front and besides some slight oxidation not much else. Flavor again just some malt sweetness and not much else. Some warming in the finish. Pretty straight forward BW.

(My highest rating month ever!) Bottle: Mahogany hue with a small head and minimal lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, pear, apricot, bread, herbs, pepper, and a hint of phenolic activity. The taste has an aggressive boozy character at first a then followed by sharp bitterness counter balance. The midsection develops a heavy malt and sweet tone finishing off with spice and wood. The mouth feel is lush and oily with a warming trend. A solid brew all in all but still rough around the edges. THX Chris.

22 oz. bottle from Bottleworks. There was no date indicated on the bottle, so no idea what vintage this was. Pour is a clear brown copper with a very thin head that fades fast. Aroma of big sweet biscuit malty goodness. Not complex, but a nice nose. Taste is more of the malt and is really soft and really well put together (smooth). No heat whatsoever despite higher ABV. Nice Barley Wine. I would guess this was a year or 2 old.

deep heavy sweet raisin and fig aroma, thick head. dark, dark color for a barley wine. Raisin, wood and leather.

Beautiful mahogany in colour, thin beige coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is very malty, lots of raisins, figs and plums, light alcohol, light sweetness, slightly burnt. The flavour is rich and slightly chewy, lots of malts, some toffee sweetness, lots of dark fruits, plum cake, light alcohol. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/large body, medium carbonation. Finishes lingering, some warmth, continuing malty. Chewy and malty, this is your typical and average barleywine. I liked it but I found it to be lacking in some body.

No best before date although I’ve had it for at least 2 years.

20061111 Sampled at Cornboy’s 1st Annual Barley Wine Extravaganza
#11 2004 Bit metallic aroma but sugary, molasses. Tart to stark in the beginning but levels out nicely. Mellow bitterness settles in. Salty? Bit thin body.

Bottle that pours out the color of maple syrup, almost as thick. Good lacing, smell is of dried fruit, taste is sugary and a bit smoky. Noting that stands out in this brew except for the musty, damped smell when you first sip it might me oxidised. Would like to try this on tap.
