Small white head a somewhat prominent floral hop smell that transmits to the taste as well. Simple and bland for an IPA but not all that crappy, unlike the other Townsends. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 22, 2005 Another 22 oz bomber while waiting for a ferry. Golden beer with a thick white head. Aroma is fairly sweet and fruity, some sweet caramelly malts. More fruity yeastiness in flavour as well balancing the light caramel and woody malts. Estery fruity finish. Not what I was expecting from a Washington State IPA. Oakes (8093), gone rambling, Vietnam

Bright amber colour. Earthy, fruity, fuggley aroma. Moderate bitterness. Light and bright, with earthy English malts. Really understated for a WA IPA...I still feel that this style works best when it is really hop forward and brash. BückDich (4847), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 13, 2005 Bottle IPACopper, no head, light lacing. Nose of bamboo, hops and crispy pale malts. The flavor is musky, metallic and sweet, not too balanced. A lingering crummy mouthfeel. Finishes tangy. Meh. bb (2919), Martinez, California, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 4, 2005 22oz bottle that only says Port Townsend IPA. That she blows is right. This thing is another foamer... not so much out of the bottle, but poured in my glass it’s 90% white foam and 10% semi--murky deep yellow, pretty much the color in the picture on this page. It has a musty, airy aroma, with some burnt caramel malts, some metallic notes (light), some cardboard as well (also light), and a musty hop acidity that reaches up the nose. Pungent, sharp flavor up front of old oranges, limes, lemons, starchy tree sap hop flavor, but turning more oily in the finish. Middle of the drink is interesting, it basically disappears. Leaves the tongue empty and too light. I think I can taste the bottle. TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 24, 2005 Cloudy dark golden with a rocky off white, fully retained head. Aroma is OK. A bit of fresh hop citric aroma, but not enough. Flavor is better than the aroma but is bitter and not much sweet. Also seems to have an off flavor in the finish. Definetely not the greatest IPA. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 25, 2004 Bottle, from Bottleworks. OK nose citrus, oranges/lemons/grapefruit. Touch skunky. Maybe grass or even clove in there. Hazy orangy/golden color. Ok head that faded slowly. Bitter flavors, grapefruit, kinda rindy. Little tinny. Thinner body, tad creamy. Bitter finish that hangs around. One dimensional, but doesn’t WOW me. Just ok.
