Bright amber colour. Earthy, fruity, fuggley aroma. Moderate bitterness. Light and bright, with earthy English malts. Really understated for a WA IPA...I still feel that this style works best when it is really hop forward and brash. argo0 (6998), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is fairly sweet and fruity, some sweet caramelly malts. More fruity yeastiness in flavour as well balancing the light caramel and woody malts. Estery fruity finish. Not what I was expecting from a Washington State IPA. ¾ (5006), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 4, 2005 22oz bottle that only says Port Townsend IPA. That she blows is right. This thing is another foamer... not so much out of the bottle, but poured in my glass it’s 90% white foam and 10% semi--murky deep yellow, pretty much the color in the picture on this page. It has a musty, airy aroma, with some burnt caramel malts, some metallic notes (light), some cardboard as well (also light), and a musty hop acidity that reaches up the nose. Pungent, sharp flavor up front of old oranges, limes, lemons, starchy tree sap hop flavor, but turning more oily in the finish. Middle of the drink is interesting, it basically disappears. Leaves the tongue empty and too light. I think I can taste the bottle. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

The flavor is musky, metallic and sweet, not too balanced. A lingering crummy mouthfeel. Finishes tangy. Meh. beerguy101 (3971), Newark, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2004 Medium orange color. Medium sized white head. Aroma is very fruity, floral and sweet, orange and peaches. A medium to full bodied India Pale Ale. Malts are very fruity and estery and sweet. Hops are very prevalent, grapefruity and floral. A hop bomb. Big hop bitterness, yet there is still a nice malty fruitiness to it. The fruitiness is more evident in the aroma than the taste. Fairly smooth. Nice hoppy IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.
