Commercial Description:
Characterized by intense brown roasted malt flavors, this full bodied ale is deep reddish brown in color. A bold hop bitterness is balanced by a healthy addition of caramel malts. Cascade hops provide a flowery and aromatic hop finish.

Draft at The Upstage, PT. Comes out deep ebony brown to near black; some decent whitish-gray head. Hugely roasty and chocolatey on the nose and through the mid-palate, but thin and a little over-carbed. Lots of strong examples of the familiar pleasures of porter drinking, but not really a complete job of making a porter, and not really a venture down a new path, either--creatively or accidentally. I can’t complain about this beer, or jump up and down about it.

Draught at the Uptown Pub in Port Townsend. Poured clear brown with a diminishing off white head. Roasty chocolate aroma. Body was medium with medium carbonation, and despite the clear appearance, not watery. Taste is lightly sweet with nuts, chocolate, molasses and just a touch of smoke and coffee. Clean but not particularly strong finish. A nicely balanced and refreshing porter.

(22 oz bottle: Obtained 22-Dec-05 in trade with Larry Pitonka, thanks André!) A porter made with bushels upon bushels of apple skins, if you catch my drift. Behind the bitter apple skins is a moderate roastiness, but clearly this beer isn’t right. Apple skins in the nose too. Medium bodied with a dry, chalky mouthfeel. Carbonation is high, obviously, but not as bad as it could be. Dark, ruddy brown colored body is topped by an explosive, light-tan head, a common element in beers showing severe signs of acetaldehyde. Chunky foam sticks to the glass. Will rerate when I get another bottle, and unless they suddenly go out of business, I will obtain a new one one way or another.

22oz bottle via trade with Indiana_Red - Thanks Ken! - Pours black with a full creamy tan head that stays well and laces the sides of the english pint pretty well on the way down. Aroma is mostly roasted toasty malt, light chocolate, and a little yeast. Flavor is a nice roasted toasty delight. Not over the top with chocolate but enough there to make it slightly sweet without overpowering. Nice full flavor that finishes with some faint bitter hops and a nice roasty aftertaste that lingers. Full bodied and smooth on the palate. A nice porter and a nice nightcap..

Tall dark black bourbon color with a sizeable tan head and great lacing. The nose is lightly roasty with some sweet chocolate and faint coffee notes. A bit of bread and other fresh toasty malt notes. The flavor is a touch astringent, not as sweet as I was expecing but full bodied and rather full and explosive on the tongue. The finish is mellow and creamy with wisps of roast that trail the light hoppy bitterness that touches the back of your tongue. Drank this while fishing from a boat in the middle of a lake while it was very cold, rainy and windy. This added another layer of warmth.

Dark demi-murky brown with some light brown color at the edges of the glass. Medium sized tan head. Sweet sugar glazed bread (donuts?) and coffee scented. Semi-rich texture, first taste is sweet coffee and dry stout-ish malts, second taste over the tongue is very rich toffee, bourbon, dry malts and robust bread crust and chocolate. Very good stuff, very balanced. A highlight from this brewery.

Black with decent head retention. Roasted smoky aroma and a similar body. Robust, but medium bodied. Low roasted and tasty.

Decent palate, no head. Notes of chocolate, butter, caramel, toffee, and obviously roasted. No coffee, much to my delight. An average porter.
