Full flavored, rich, malty, it has the pleasant smoked flavor wich is awesome. Outstanding first rate beer. 10%drunk (12), Auburn, Washington, USA

I definitely must try again. Nice scotch-like aroma with wonderful smoked, roasted, and peaty components. Potent and pleasantly palatable with an excellent finish. 6-03 Rerate--not quite as tasty as my initial experience, but still quite good. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Dark brown appearance, good head formation. Malty, caramel aroma. Decent creamy palate, rich malty flavores, caramel/butterscotch, mildly smokey, dark chocolate, fairly heavy hop bitterness in the finish for the style. Lingering Thornton’s toffee aftertaste, pretty tastey stuff. killjoy966 (220), Washington, USA

I think there’s a bit of spice/pepper, but it’s not that strong. Pretty solid scotch ale, though I can’t say I’m an expert on the style. KingPinHead (390), Des Moines, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2003 Crystal-clear brown-amber with moderate head, light lace..Aroma was nice blend of sweet, roasty and slightly smoky components...Flavor has similarly fine blend of flavors, assertive but also well-balanced...excellent mouthfeel as well--substantial, smooth-textured, with a nice bitterness in the finish that owes both to its roastiness and some hop comments. I am well-impressed by this effort, the best I've tried from this outfit. TimE (1301), Tokyo, Japan
