Pours a clear dark mahogany brown with a small fizzy beige head that ran to a ring quickly. The nose is very roasty with a slight sour mash note. Some coffee, burnt caramel, and chalk. The flavor is pretty acrid and burnt with a slightly sour tinge on the back end. Alot of malt derived bitterness, remindes me of day old coffee. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side with a watery texture and moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was just too burnt and acrid for my tastes. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA

Not big in the aroma department, but a bit of cocoa and coffee are there to be found amid a somewhat ’nutty’ background. Body tends to light, a bit watery, with minimal carbonation. Taste of molasses, dark chocolate, with a dry espresso and ash finish. This is a beer that almost works for me, but not quite. There’s just something grainy in here that’s arguing with my taste buds. fakepurseninja (788), Washington, USA

It was at one time but has since gone; Sour. Has been refrigerated its whole life - not sure how it went bad. I will have to try it again some other time. robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has light notes of roasted malt and chocolate. the flavour has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa, sweetness, a bit of coffee and a light bitterness. It’s smooth with a rather good body - uncomplicated and straight forward - thank you Tom/After4ever!! boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2007 Pours a sexy deep brown, not quite opaque, with a pleasant sheen. A thin, off-white, slowly diminishing head recedes too slowly to keep track of. The aroma has awkward roast and chocolate integration at first, but quickly smoths to something appealing. Coffee and heavily roasted grains veer off in every direction as they stream from the glass. Flavor starts out on the sweet side, with medium to medium-high sweetness, low to mild bitterness, still loaded with roastiness. Coffee notes and bitterness build and are relatively sustained at a high level throughout, just after the initial sweetness of the first sip or two wears thin. Carbonation is just a little on the light side. Chalky chocolate doesn’t jive well with a somewhat watery texture. The finished product just doesn’t feel quite finished at all, it’s too grainy. It almost feels like a concentrate that’s been watered down a little too much. Quite drinkable but needs some fine tuning. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 18, 2007 Bottle… This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Terrific retention. Rich aroma of pistachio and milk chocolate with diacetyl and vanilla undertones. Sweet, chocolaty flavor. Not complex, just rich and tasty. Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Sweet, chocolate and coffee finish. I haven’t checked my stats, but this has to be one of the very best dry stouts I’ve ever tasted! Underrated, in my book. Big props to Degarth for sharing this gem of a beer!
