Commercial Description:
In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with an oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

A Mes rate. Nitro at The Porterhouse of all places, who wouldathunkit?
Clean amber gold with a decent white head. Good start. Very grassy and aromatic on the nose with some solid supporting malt. The flavour is really good. Really good. Very American all round. Slight mineral notes, really good grassy hops, nice and bitter and aromatic with some late tangy malt. Really good bitter finish. Excellent length. Not complex at all just a really good U.S. style chugger. Nice one.

Draught @ The Porterhouse, Covent Garden. I’d been dying to try this since last year, when I first heard about it, and it didn’t disappoint. Amber with a nice sized off white head. Sweet biscuity caramel malts and grassy grapefruit hops in both aroma and flavor. I didn’t get any of the diacetyl or butter mentioned, just a good clean American style pale ale with a long bittersweet finish. However, I was rather drunk at the time.

Got this on tap at Porterhouse Central after hearing about its release this season. Pours a nice orange yellow color with a 3/4 finger fizzy white head that goes down pretty quick. Smells great-hoppy with a bit of citrus/pine aroma but not overwhelming at all. Very inviting. Tastes great as it smells-a great combination of fresh hops, light citrus grapefruit, and buttery biscuit. Very true to the APA style. Not too bitter and the hops are very nice so it goes down smooth and relatively light for an APA with little carbonation. This was a bit of a surprise hit for me and I’ll definitely recommend it to those looking for a light hops hit in the land of the stouts. I’d like to try it in bottle too for comparison sakes but the on-tap format is pretty tough to turn down when you’re actually in the bar!

On nitro at the brewpub. Clear amber with small white head. Large citrus aroma with spicey bitterness, pleasant, medium sweet caramel, well balanced. Off-dry caramel with citrus, orange flavor, a little bubblegum, medium bitterness, more malt sweetness to hop bitterness than the brain blasta. Active carbonation and light to medium body. Tasty.

Draft 1/2 pint at the main brewpub in Dublin. Copper in color. Quite "stingy" with a nice citrus bite over the top of a nice rounded beer. Unique for this part of the world. (#3670, 9/15/2009)

Draft. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of caramel, sweet malt, bisquites, and flowery hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of chewy malty, caramel, bisquites, and grassy hops, leading to a bitter finish.

Very hoppy (it stayed true to the name), very aromatic and quite light. Had a nice amber appearance with a head which, although not large, was long lasting. A good beer that you could stay on for the night. Very refreshing.
