daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 30, 2009 Damn fine IPA. DAMN FINE. Amber pour, whitish head. Aroma is so nice. Floral, spicy, citrus, earthy, grassy hops. Flavor is smooth and full of hops but no excess bitterness. Just an array of hops dancing on every tastebud. Good stuff. Man oh man. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Aug 15, 2009 On tap at the brew pub. Thought I was pretty lucky to get this one. The waiter said it was the last week it was on tap and I was just passing through town. Amber in color with an average sized white head. Aroma is of pine, lots of citrus and grapefruit, grass and lightfloral. Taste is much of the same. Very delicious. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Jun 20, 2009 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewey store. Pours a lovely deep gold color with a slight haze to it. A careful pour still netted a full 1" head that receded and left thick sticky lace all over the glass. When you take a whiff of this hop bomb your olefactory senses are assualted with hops, hops and more hops. This brew is heavy on the palate with average to low carbonation. Flavor, as you may have guessed, is all hops. Grapefruit, pine, resin, floral, it’s all here. OMFG! this baby is bitter. Dry bitter finish. This brew really good have used a little malt for some balance, but it was something else. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jan 3, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Hazed golden amber with a thick white head. Big nose of orange, mild grapefruit and pine. Dry citrus flavors, mostly grapefruit zest and some resiny pine. Makes the sides of the tongue ache! Dry finish, excellent lace. A hop bomb of the highest order. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 15, 2008 sampler @ brewery - light amber with spotty white head; clear and light carbonation; aromas are all hops; resinous and very bitter; body on the the light side, but all the hops add some weight to the texture; overall this one’s a straight up bitter bomb OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 5, 2008 On tap at the Portsmouth Brewery. A nice amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is nothing but hops citrus/floral you get it all. Flavor get ready for a mouth full of hops. You get some sweet malt in the background but be ready for the hops. It starts with some grapefruit and lemon zest and finishes with the big columbus bitterness. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Sep 5, 2008 Donna poured me this hop bomb in a Imperial pint glass. When it arrived it had a fingers worth of white head that turned to a thick lace that slid down the glass as you drank it. The body was a clear orange yellow in color.
The aromas is very hop forward. Right of the bat you get the hit of citrus, lemons and grapefruit. It has a really great hop floral presence especially with the big wide mouth of a Imp pint glass placing your nose right in the brew.
Taste like hops and lots of them although you do get a nice sweet front note of crystal malts. Following that you get hit with the mouth drying grapefruit and pine resin bitter. The mouthfeel is medium with just the right amount of carbonation to keep this brew very drinkable.
The hops used for the 5 C’s are Columbus, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Crystal, Plus Simcoe hops I guess that’s where the ’s comes in. This is the biggest Hop bomb I seen Portsmouth produce. If you are a Hop head you need to try this one it is very drinkable. I had a few and I’m heading back for more
