| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 29, 2009 On draught at the brewpub, served in a really cold glass. The beer pours a dark brown color with a thin and foamy beige head that diminishes quickly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Mildly nutty aroma with a trace amount of malt. Medium, smooth body with flavors of toasted malt, caramel and nuts and mild hops in the background. The bartender said the beer was between 8-10% ABV but I was not getting that at all. The finish is sweet and malty up front with a light bitter hops flavor left behind. Average overall.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 4, 2004 the woody chocolate color of chokecherry bark, with reddish salients. in a pint glass and bar room atmosphere, i often find the aromas difficult to locate-- whether it's competing odors or the product being aroma-challenged isn't easy to determine. probably both. the most striking difference between the beers i sampled at this brewpub seemed to be the color, so "full body" apparently is not the principle characteristic the brewer was shooting for. this one is light bodied, and moderate roastiness is it's most conspicuous aspect. there are the faintest vestiges of candy-wrapper chocolate, dry graininess over old coffee, a hint of cherry perhaps. some hop registers, but without a sufficient malty foundation, even this moderate bitterness seems metallic.
