Commercial Description:
German-style wheat ale. Mit hefe (with yeast) this cloudy, classic German ale is light in body yet big in flavor. Lots of clove and a bit of banana make a big aromatic presence

Tap at brewpub. Pours a hazy golden with a thin head. Aroma is phenoilc spicy, light banana- cleanser and soapy- with lemon hints. Flavor is light esters, ok to medium clove- lemon and vanilla phenols and crackery wheat malts, but a bit soapy and clean with not full yeast character or big doughy wheat body.

20080729 Tap at brewpub. Usual hefe appearance with quick fading head. Sweet, lots of banana notes. Not spicy or dry so not quite as refreshing as you might hope in a hefeweizen.

It’s been a while since I had a really good hefe. Everyone’s making one now. Tod Makes his better. I think it’s called caring and having taste. 64oz brown growler. Filled today at the release of KTG. Seriously, no need for a random time like 2:27pm. No need for this kind of hoopla on a Tuesday. I took the day of for this sh!te. No need what so ever. 6 Hours later in a pint glass (one of those new Sam Adams glasses). A hazy orange-gold beer pours out with a thin head that fades in a few minutes. Sticks to the sides and leaves a visible trail of suds. Huge banana with a nice and very inviting citrus aroma in the background. There is a slight hint of yeastiness in overall smell but it’s very subtle. Huge banana-nana-nana with a nice mild citrus and some spice that really helps keep the beer grounded. Otherwise you’d loose bready and malty (wheat) undertones that linger in the mouth after every mouthful. Feel like a decent mouthful without being either to thin or heavy. This beer is quiet complex enough without the fact that it feels good in your mouth as it slides down into the throat. It’s a great hefe to drink in this New England humidity. it’s cooling off but it was hot. This beer is also quiet refreshing. Bonus. O yeah, back porch with a growler after a nice summer day, after a long day in the heat, just needing a good one, this beer is incredibly easy to drink. Awesome!

Very cloudy, very bubbly, very not my style although many do enjoy its taste and texture.

Pours rather dark for a hefe. Super intense bubblegum banana aroma, but the flavor is not overpowering. Very nice.

Draught @ Portsmouth Brewpub. Pours cloudy orange-gold with a big fluffy head. Nose is massive banana - to the point of being almost overwhelming and artificial tasting. Taste is some spicy, crisp wheat and more gigantic banana - like laughy taffy in character. Very sweet, but domeinated by the fruity, artificial banana note. Spicy, clean finish. Disappointing when placed up against the quality of the other Portsmouth brews we tried. Crisp carbonation and medium to light body.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a golden amber orange body with a thin white head. Bananas and fruity esters. Over ripe banana’s sweet malt and a lil etoh. Very clean taste with risidual sweetness. Just overly sweet. My least favorite of the day.
