corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 6, 2009 Pours a very deep dark amber/chestnut brown with dark golden ruby/amber edges when held to a light source and a one finger foamy off-white head that coats the glass with soapy lacing.
Fresh earthy floral hop aroma with some nice citrus notes and slight dry pine. Pretty big malt backbone with some toasty biscuit and caramel malt notes but this doesn’t take much away from the dank bud oily hop notes.
Extremely fresh earthy bitter floral hops up front with a chewy dank resinous mouthfeel. There is a pretty strong toasty caramel biscuit malt backbone but the hops are so dry and fresh that they sustain there flavor throughout and last into dry bitter finish. There are some nice citrus notes, mostly grapefruit and citrus peel but the freshness of the hops provides a luscious dry pine flavor that is oh so tasty. Normally I dislike any kind of hoppy beer that has this much of a malt backbone but this is an exception. Plenty of fresh dank hops to overcome the maltiness, resulting in an extremely flavorful and drinakble harvest ale. Recommended.
brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jan 16, 2009 Pours dark copper with an amber hue and a chill haze.
A half inch head of white quickly dissapated to a skim coat on the surface, and plenty of dotted lacework remained for the duration.
Aromatics are filled with green, sweet, lush hops and juicy malt. Ripe citrus with crushed spruce boughs, and candied hop resin with skunky cannabis dew.
Cover the glass, give it a swirl, and take a big huff..Oh yea.
Medium bodied, with crisp, creamy, and slightly chewy mouthfeel.
Candied tropical fruit, juicy malt, and pine syrup lead off the palate. A firm, drying bitterness steps forward along with some grapefruit zest and a caramel nod.
Finishes with bitter and sweet fruits, plump malt, and lingering hop resin.
Ultra-fresh, and a showcase for what a real wet-hopped harvest ale should be.
A couple of notches up from last years Harvest.
Yum.
lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 26, 2008 Bottle in trade from Pastor (joepais). Thanks man!!
Pours a rich opaque dark amber to maroon with a pillowy yellowish beige lasting head. Smell is sweet tropical fruits and candy. Sweet and lightly hoppy. Taste is very smooth and creamy with a red ale like sweet candy fruit malt flavor with moderate hop flavor and low bitterness. Smell fades quickly. Overall, a fairly mildly bittered and slightly sweet fresh hop beer, but nice.
