Creamy off-white head. Red-amber beer. Hardly any carbonation. Dark fruits in the nose. Surprisingly complex flavor: nuts, coffee, figs and prums. A bit of bitterness. A bit astringent to the palate.

Bottle 0.33 l from Achel Kluis. Cloudy brown, big thick head. Looks appetizing. Malty nose with figs and raisins. Flavor has hops, spices, liqourice, figs, raisins. Thick mouth with a champaign carb. Good.

330ml bottle (Gollem, Amsterdam)
Rich red, tiny head. Nutty aroma. Refreshing woody and slightly nutty taste, but also some fruity notes too, and pleasant dark malts. Slight drying aspect too. Nutty finish. No hint of 7% at all.

High fluffy but lasting off-white head leaving nice curtains. Clear dark brown body. Sweet roasted barley malt aroma with caramel. Rather bitter caramel flavor with a good deal of carbonation and a long bitter aftertaste.

330ml bottle from Bier Tempel, Brussels. Cardboard and sugar aroma. Foamy crisp carbonation, even when rested. Licorice notes. Usual sort of unimaginative brown Belgian ale with a lot of candy sugar. It’s drinkable but it’s boring. Bang, bang, bang - these Dubbels are knocked out. Be nice if brewers played around with the style a little more.
