SuperDave70 (840), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 1, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Dark brown-black pour with a nice creamy tan head that faded slowly. Roasted grain, coffee and malt make up the aroma. Roastiness also dominates the flavor, with hints of vanilla and spice. A touch of hops on the finish. Good brew, but the body is too thin and the flavor too weak to acheive greatness. hopdog (4659), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 22, 2008 Growler acquired in trade with sparky27 (thanks!). Poured a dark, dark brown color with a medium sized off white head. Aromas of earthiness, chocolate, toasty, light vanilla, and roast. Tastes of oats, chocolate, roasty, and light caramel. jstu9 (402), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 26, 2004 I had this at the Great Arizona Beer Festival in Phoenix. I felt like this was a pretty typical stout. Gusler (2656), Tucson, Arizona, USA Mar 29, 2004 (Draught)
The beer as it meanders from the tap to the glass an onyx color, the head sits tall on the body, the color a toothsome light brown and the texture creamy and as it slowly fades, the resultant lace a thick blanket to lay upon the glass. Nose as a nice toasted grain aroma, sweet and pleasant to the senses, start is sweet and thickly malted with the top rich and full in its feel to the palate. Finish has a modest acidity, the hops pleasantly spicy, nice chocolate sweetness to the end of the desert dry aftertaste, a fine beer from a fine brewery.
