Commercial Description:
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

...bottle. Pours a hazy yellowish-orange with a white, frothy minimal head that is lasting with good lacing. Aromas were of some bananna, wheat malt, and maybe a small hint of clove, but not much. Flavors were rather subtle, and not as strong as the typical good weiss. Nice wheat flavor, with hints of yeast and maybe some bread. Smooth mouthfeel with medium\light bodied that goes down well. Finished silky with no real strong aftertaste like a really good hefe, but still worth a try. Just not as flavorful as my favorites, but a decent brew.

Pours a gorgeous hazy subdued orange. A good one to two fingered-head graces the top of my glass, eventually fading into a very decent ring and soft film on top of my weissbier. The nose. Ah the nose: bananas, clove, yeast, and some sour bread. Silky smooth with a bit of soft chewiness in the body, a wonderful attribute of the wheat permeating my Ludwig. Mild hints of bananas, spice, and cloves, and sour yeasts lingering in the back are balanced perfectly. A bit of a softer weissbier then others I have had, the overall flavor profile is spot on. I enjoy my weissbiers the most after they have had a few minutes outside the fridge to breath and eek toward room temperature. As I approach the end of my glass, a nicely mild yeast tang hangs with the soft banana and spiced cloves.
It’s hard sometimes to remain unbiased when I just quite simply love the German weissbier style. I am always in the mood for a good German weiss, and Konig Ludwig is right there to meet my need with a smile. It isn’t my favorite weissbier, but it’s milder, more balanced palate would be a good introductory German hefe, and a good session beer for simply whenever.

Geez, what a disappointment! I see this was just named best weisse or hefe weisse in beers of the world mag. Had this some year back and thought it was ok. and still think the same today. Ok, and nothing more. Hazy yellow, fine white head, good carbonation. Not much aroma. didn’t pick up much in the way of the standard bavarian hefe weiss characteristics then or now. Maybe in this backwater we’re not getting the good stuff.

Bottle brown, 500 ml, 12 P
Appearance: Pours surprisingly with smaller head than ’Konig Ludwig Dunkelweizen’, head is initially moderate, snowy white, rocky - frothy, quite irregular in structure, slowly decreasing to small froth floating on the body surface, carbonation of the body is lively, lacing is decent.
Aroma: Very nice, pronounced, mature aroma of wheat, yeast, barley malt, juicyness, notes of banana, carrot, aroma is very strong and not typically, very intensive, clover, accidity, flowery hops, sweet oriented&aromatic.
Flavour: Very nice, full taste, grains of barley malt and wheat, clover, banana, slight saltyness on palate, daugh, floral gentle hoppyness, gentle carbonation on palate, bready, finish duration is long.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is smooth, wattery to creamy, carbonation on palate is moderate to lively, finish feel is slightly chalky and moderate astringent.

(Draught at Kaisla as König Ludwig on 2008-07-30) Orange. Cloudy. Big white head that didn’t last long. Banana and malts in nose. Light palate with medium carbonation. Banana, malts, light pine flavours and bitterness. Slightly bitter short aftertaste.
