Commercial Description:
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

Pours a fairly clear yellow, with a good frothy head (which remains as a strong covering throughout) and lots of teeny tiny carbonation bubbles. I find it too clear for a hefe. The aroma is cloves, banana (the usuals), and watermelon rind. The taste is a bit more bitter than I’m used to with a hefe, with more sour lemon and less banana sweetness. There is some spiciness there as well, and a touch of nuttiness. Comes across as too watery for my liking. The aftertaste is tangy, sour, and dry. A decent beer, but most certainly not a top-notch hefe.

On tap at Smokeless Joe’s in Toronto. (There called Konig Ludwig Weiss.) Pale yellow cludy color - somewhat flat aroma with bare hints of fruit and spice. Mediocre level of enjoyment is marred by a glue-like aftertaste in the flavor I can assume should not be there. So is this the inspiration for the (far superior) Denisons Weisse? I’ll take my nine bucks (sheesh) elsewhere next time. I really don’t remember the ’envelope-adhesive’ flavor from tasting it at BeerBistro earlier this summer but it’s gross and i rate ’em as I taste ’em, Mein lieber Prinz.

On tap at the Beer Bistro in Toronto. (There called Konig Ludwig Weiss.) Translucent yellow-gold with good head and nice lacing. Aroma and taste are both typical, if unspectacular. There is really nothing to it that can’t be found (with more complexity) elsewhere. Having said that, it’s a nice, drinkable summertime beer.

Bottle. Never seen this before until the other day when I went to the grocery store. Pours out a darker yellow color with a big white head that goes away pretty fast. Smell has some banana notes and some lemon flavors, but not really very heavy on them. Smells just pretty much like beer. Taste has some nice clove and banana flavors, but this cannot stand up to the better hefes out there. Still, very drinkable, and pretty pleasing overall. I will drink it again.

Hazy golden with nice pillowy head. Wheaty bananas vanilla and light spice aromas, as well as a soft body with clovey banana flavors. A nice refresher.

On Tap @ Beer Bistro as Konig Ludwig Weissbier500 ml
Appearance :Thick haze of muddy, golden peach with solid creamy crown.3+
Nose :Clean, fruity true traditional wheat character is shown. Slightly citric background.
Flavour/Palate: Mellow palate , soft texture with medium depth. Clean wheat. This one is with charcteristical softness. Low acidity, rather on sweeter side. More tangy at finish. Overall quiet good with session like attitude. Old school is welcomed.

Bottle. Cloudy orange colour with a big, off-white head. Aroma of yeast, bananas and cloves. Flavour of more bananas, grain and lemon. A pretty good hefeweizen.
