Commercial Description:
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

(bottle) Hazy yellow colour with a big rocky, slowly lacing foam. Fruity (apricot, banana) and yeasty aroma with a touch of cloves. Slight sweet flavour, light to medium body. Malty and yeasty taste with a subtle banana fruitiness and a clove-spicy and slight citrus-fruity finish of medium length. Aromatic and solid thirst quencher with decent character, that only lacks a bit body.

Bottled: This is an excellent wheat beer. The aroma is discreet and pleasant. Nice grainy flavour with a good long finish.

Nice golden orange colour with classic flavours of coriander and orange/lemon. Had a huge pillowy white head that lasted to the bottom. Floral and citrus aroma, with nice bubble gum esters. Tastes include spice, citrus, yeast, sweet bready malt and a fair bit of alcoholic heat. Well balanced, nice body for the style. This one leans away from the big banana flavours in favour of clovey spice. One of my favourite summertime beers.

Bottle. (as König Ludwig Weissbier Hell) Unclear, orange weizen with a too small, white head. Banana, hops and some cloves in the aroma. A bit sugary flavor, with banana, citrus-notes and spicyness. Mellow, but a bit gassy mouthfeel. Spiced, lightly banana-ish finish. Not a bad hefe, but it could use a bit more pronounced flavor. (070527)

A light yellow cloudy pour with medium head. Aromas of uncooked dough and lemons. Tastes are the same: lemons and dough, not very enjoyable. Cut down on the yeast here. Smooth on the palate with a sweet lemon finish, but not something I enjoyed.

König Ludwig Weiss is what I drank and that’s what’s available in my area. I don’t understand this name bit. Be that as it may, not a bad hefeweizen. Cloudy yellow with a frothy white head, it has a mild banana and spice aroma. Good tasting with touches of other fruits. Very clean, refreshing finish.

A very light peach color with a moderate head for a weeise that holds up throughout the quaff. Maderate malt a dn sweet wheat aroma and flavor. A decent weiss whitout a lot of complexity. Straight forward malt flavors without either the the cloves or banana. Satisfying, yet still seems to be missing the true yeast characteristics.

Fruity, citrus (lemon). Hazy, golden color, white head, few lace. Very fruity, light sweet, light citric. Very special weissbier with totally different flavors.
