Commercial Description:
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

Koenig Ludwig Weissbier bottle. Pours hazy lemon flesh with a small foamy white head and has spotty falling lacing. Sweet wheat aroma with a banana malt nose. Sweet wheat and hoppy banana flavor. Spicy and crisp light bodied refreshing palate.

Tasted 09/07/2008. 500ml bottle from New World Thorndon. Hazy pale yellow gold, creamy white head that doesn’t linger a long time. Nice banana esters, a little clove and wheat - fresher than I expceted. Good in the mouth, filling the mouth with lively carbonation and malt and banana ester sweetness but still slender enough to be drinkable. Mild phenols and wheaty mealiness bring me back for more. Certainly felt like another one at the end. Very simple but I think this is very much along the lines of the Weissbier I’ve been looking for. Very nice for a beer that has come this far.

Aroma is hay, dry grass and grains. Body is a light hay colored yellow and holds a firm and lasting two finger thick creamy white head. Fore is creamy bannana, yeasty, wheat flakes and sweet cream. That flavor profile carries into a slightly more bitter (though not bitter by American standards) finish. I’ve always liked this Hefe and I still do.

** FAR BETTER AT BEER BISTRO ** poweful clove note, enjoyable banana sweetness and great baalnce ** 3.8 score ** On tap at Smokeless Joe’s in Toronto. (There called Konig Ludwig Weiss.) Pale yellow cludy color - somewhat flat aroma with bare hints of fruit and spice. Mediocre level of enjoyment is marred by a glue-like aftertaste in the flavor I can assume should not be there. So is this the inspiration for the (far superior) Denisons Weisse? I’ll take my nine bucks (sheesh) elsewhere next time. I really don’t remember the ’envelope-adhesive’ flavor from tasting it at BeerBistro earlier this summer but it’s gross and i rate ’em as I taste ’em, Mein lieber Prinz. (2.7)

This is a good beer because it has banana and wheat combined in the taste. Also it is sweet but not too sweet. The percentile is too low I think it should be higher then that. The aftertaste is pleasant. The aroma is the only thing that didn’t cut it for me. Good stuff.

a very good and enjoyable german wheat but seemed just a tad, and i mean a tad, not up to its potential of a full hefe...maybe because i had a weihenstapher(sp) yesterday...so...great head....yellow gold..good flavour, enjoyable and a great sessioner.

Tap in Germany. Pours with a beautiful hazy yellow with a nice head and excellent lacing. Aromas of cloves, wheat and banana. Flavors of yeast, bread and a bit of hop bitterness. Quite refreshing and nice.

Import from Dusseldorf trip. Apricot-hued weizen heaped with creamy foam. Silky and swimming with bits. Appetising citrussy lemon snout, with a touch of vinous wood. Crisp, slightly sour, slightly boozy wheatiness with a touch of bitterness in the finish. None of the big fruity bubblegum flavours of Paulaner etc. Lovely creamy-wheaty afters.Quality beverage.
