Commercial Description:
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

I’m really not too big on the look of the floaties in this one. Actually, they do not float, but quickly sink to the bottom of the glass. Hmmm...Hazy golden-hued body. Barely any head at all. Interesting sweet aroma - honey and wheat with lots of fruit. The flavor isn’t so sweet at all, but its pretty decent. Delicate floral notes. Chewy mouthfeel.

Cloudy straw pour, nice head and lacing. Sugary cinnamon hops, somewhat fruity, like banana or raisins. Medium mouthfeel and low sweetish aroma. Nice beer, good with food, liked this one a lot. I drank this as Konig Ludwig Weissbier.

Aroma is sweet, banana, clove, and wheat. Taste is fizzy, lemon, banana wheat. Pours with a straw/golden hue, a huge head, and a very nice aroma of clove-centric banana. The appearance and the aroma are promising, but the taste is over-carbonated, and somewhat jumbled in it’s strange lemony mix of flavors. Overall, a good beer, but not world-class.

On tap at the Castle as Konig Ludwig Weisse. Taps your typical awesome looking Hefe. Aroma is actually a little different. You’ve got your usual banana and a hint of clove, with wheat malt and yeast, but a sort of undertone of Earthiness makes itself known that is interesting to the nose. Flavour is more of the same (but not in the McCain kind of way). Very tasty Hefe, banana, toned down clove, yeasty goodness with less than excessive effervescence, but that weird sort of earthiness makes its presence known very quickly, but it by no means unwelcome. There is really very little to dock point on with this one. Really nice Hefe and I’m glad to have tried it considering I didn’t know it existed. My 400th rating! My 300th was Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen, so maybe this is a new tradition for me, Hefe’s as milestones. A nice treat from the now defunct Wittelsbach Bavarian Dynasty (marketing which appeals to me as the huge history geek I am).
