I’m not a great lover of dark beers but this one I like.
When it’s on at the Sutton Oak, punters come from all over, so it doesn’t last very long. chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Feb 13, 2008 Cask (handpump), Crown Hotel, Worthington, Greater Manchester. Deep nut brown colour with a thin, but lasting, beige head. One sniff leaves you in no doubt that this is a Christmas beer. And an excellent one at that. Redolent of Christmas pudding and oozing with fruity, mulled wine spices. More of the same on the palate but doesn’t fall into the trap of becoming cloying. A prominent hoppy bitterness takes care of that and produces a genuinely tasty and nicely balanced festive brew. The mouthfeel is mellow and spicy, but firm and sprightly too, whilst retaining a decent weight. Excellent stuff. I’m not usually a big fan of this type of beer but this one won me over.
