Ungstrup (11930), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 2, 2008 Bottled. A deep red beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and straw. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel as well as medium notes of spices, pumpernickle bread, and alcohol, leading to a dry bitter finish.
kappldav123 (1229), Markkleeberg, Germany Sep 22, 2008 The bottle looks simple, the beer in the glass very dark, also dark foam. Malty and modest alcoholic aroma. Starts malty and dry, the finish is malty prickly. Not bad, but a bit too less sweet for a doppelbock! Oakes (7047), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2008 Dark brown. Molasses, buckwheat honey, rich dark malts in the nose. Smooth body with rich chocolate, and a kiss of honey and toffee. Muscovado finish. Very clean, a pure dark sugar treat. Papsoe (11421), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 10, 2007 (Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of MoritzF. Clear, beautiful, reddish brown with a light brown head. Sweetish aroma of burned caramel. Full-bodied with plenty of roasted malt and burned caramel. Some almost coffeeish notes. Very subdued bitterness. A nice one. 311007 yespr (8539), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 9, 2007 50 cL bottle.
