Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 18, 2007 On tap at MacTarnahans Taproom in PDX (8.1% ABV) --Poured a copper-amber body with a small whitish head. Nose of piny, bitter, acidic hopiness. Grainy, metallic (slightly) and highly carbonated for the style. Bitterness and oily hops all over tongue. Not much bigger than the Thunderhead and similar flavor profile. Not well balanced, but definitely hoppy, and I like that in a beer. Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 18, 2005 A clear amber beer with a small off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and hops - though no overwhelming hop notes. The flavor is sweet and hoppy as well as grassy. A nice brew, but not as extreme as I had expected from the name. jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Mar 13, 2005 Bottle. This stuff smells really hoppy. Has a nice opaque amber color with a slight lace head. Has a good flavor to it. Not too bitter but it bites you a little. Weak finish but overall a good beer bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Nov 1, 2004 Draft. Reddish amber color with no head. Pine malt aroma - big hops. Pine tar and citrus (grapefruit) flavors. Some caramel. Nice full mouthfeel. Can just feel the alcohol. By far their best beer. If they could make this a regular, I’d be there more often. HighGravity (890), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Oct 20, 2004 (Great American Beer Festival 2004) Very fresh hop nose. Full and bitter Sweet and barley wine like. Average to good. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Oct 13, 2004 Updated: Nov 22, 2004Hoppy aroma and taste- I’d guess it’s close to 100 IBU’s. But it does not hide it’s alcohol well. beer4president (17), Bellingham, Washington, USA May 2, 2004 I love this beer. So hoppy my mouth was in love. After a few pints do not drive home. Oh my goodness, I want some right now! robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jun 15, 2003 Heavy, VERY hoppy brew. Thick body, somewhere between a barley wine and an IPA. Alcoholy warmth after you've had a few sips. Head doesn't last very long unfortunately. Could be a little more malty for my taste. (this is a rotating beer that they make every few months at the local alehouses as part of their Brewer's Handle series.)
