Commercial Description:
Pyramid Draught Pale Ale - Nitrogenated version of our Gold Medal Winning MacTarnahan’s Amber Ale.

As the draft version of Pyramid Pale Ale , our DPA is served in the Irish style with a blend of nitrogen and carbon dioxide - giving it a uniquely smooth flavor reminiscent of Britain’s famous hand-pulled cask ales.

Tasted at Pyramid’s Berkeley brewpub as a taster set w/5 other beers. Beautiful in the glass. Darker than most pale ales, with a thick foamy head. Appeared more like a dark lager or British strong ale. Very floral, both in flavor and odor. What surprised me, though, was the overwhelming & unappealing wateriness in the middle third; flavor simply dissipated! Floral hop ending helped save the beer. I am not sure why this is called a pale ale.

On tap at MacTarnahan’s tap room--Poured a cascading creamy tawny-golden nitro body with a fluffy ice cream head. Mouth feel was rich and desert-like. Light and very quaffable. Nose of spicy and floral hops. Slightly metallic but not so much that it hindered the overall impression of this brew. Clean and pleasant silken finish.

Draft at the Safeco Field brewpub. Pours light coppery amber with densely moussy but very thin off-white head. Plenty of lace. Sour sweaty nose, some CO2 and yeast there. Watery, lightly fizzy attack. Bitter toast and light aluminum notes. Fairly clean finish.

Pours a brilliant amber with orange and gold highlights and a thick off-white head that laces the glass. The aroma is very mild - hints of bread yeast and a slight touch of malt. The flavor is also very light - it starts off with some mild malts, a touch of toasted bread, and some very earthy, almost grassy, hops. The beer finishes very bitter from the spicey and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is flat and lifeless - I’m afraid to say that the nitrogen does nothing for this beer. Overall, one of the worst beers out of the sampler.

Flavor at first seems flat, probably from the nitrogen. Light and thin, there aren’t hardly any hops, except in the finish. Pretty disappointing.

Copper-red as advertised, and thirst quenching like most Pyramid ales, but lacking zing. Nice, easy hopping, and smooth, but highly forgettable.

10 ounce sample tasted at the brewpub in Sacramento, CA. Also called "Draught Pale Ale". Citric, lemony-metallic bitter hop aroma. Some floral notes as well as some grainy malts are also present. Transparent copper body with some honey-colored hues present. Light yellow frothy head that is pretty decent. Strange, grainy, astringent start. Some roasted malts in the middle with some slight buttery diacetyl notes. Light herbal hop bitterness is present in the finish. Blegh, this just doesnt work. Astringency, lowly hopped, diacetyl mess.
