Commercial Description:
The standard by which all other wheat beers are judged. Our deliciously deranged American-Style Hefeweizen is an award winning take on this Bavarian classic. This refreshingly unfiltered wheat ale delivers a distinctively smooth flavor worth sharing with friends.

I had high hopes for this one and it was underwhelming. Looked like a great Hefe - orange/golden color, cloudy appearance - but the head wasn’t there. It was thin and dissipated quickly. The taste didn’t quite do it for me - mild sweetness but overall it was pretty bland. Reminded me of Blue Moon. Not sure the boys at Pyramid would take that as a compliment.

Pours a very cloudy gold with hints of orange and a very thin white head. The beer was served with a wedge of lemon (and the bar had all sorts of propaganda about why the lemon makes it better). I didn’t particularly care for the lemon. The aroma was overly strong with lemon zest thanks to the big wedge on the glass. Just vaguely perceptible beyond the lemon were aromas of spice (nutmeg and coriander) and fruit (citrus and banana). The flavor started off with too much lemon - nearly masking the actual flavor of the beer. But through the lemon the flavor of a decent hefeweizen was found. Wheaty -almost chewy- with lots of characteristic spice and fruit. The finish was dry and crisp. The mouthfeel is highly carbonated but creamy and medium in body - pleasing. This beer would have definitely scored better w/out the lemon (probably ~3.5).

Poured with a nice cloudy golden color with a really nice head. This is one of the more mild Hefeweizen’s. If you’re not totally into wheat beers, this would be a good starter. I enjoyed it.

Whoa! This one smells very bad. It smells like a soiled diaper and lemon cleaner. Dingy golden color with a medium white head. Tastes of an old grain silo, very grainy, soapy too. Coriander on the palate. If this beer is any indication, Germans do wheat better.

Rated 7/28/07. Cloudy golden-amber color. Nice off-white head that lasts. Good lacing down the glass. Aroma is like a typical Hefe, with wheat providing the background and citrus adding a flavorful spark to the mix. Flavor is the same. Nothing special here, just your every day average Hefe. Wheat and citrus....kind of boring.

12oz Bottle, imbibed 7/25/07. Loses points for not being all that unfiltered and the head dying faster that Lindsey Lohan at free 8 ball day. Flavor boast the usual Bavarian Hefe accomplices with a nice little surprise of hops. Not bad, just another American Wheat posing as "German"

12 oz. bottle. Good pour produced a solid head that fades fairly quickly into a strong ring with foamy sheen. Color is a hazy deep tan, almost amber. Not much nose to this one--just a slight tangy, yeasty bread whiff. Flavor is also pretty restrained, but at least it’s not bad, like some American hefes can be. This is a drinkable beer, especially in summer, but I recommend no lemon, as it really overpowers this one.
