JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Feb 3, 2007 Pour is hazy orange. Aroma of orange, spice ,and wheat. Flavors of malt, wheat, and some lemon and spice. Refreshing beer thats good with pizza. fakepurseninja (772), Washington, USA Jan 28, 2007 Updated: Feb 7, 2007Don’t be a hater - Better than what i remembered. Very smooth wheat with lots of banana flavor. Somewhat sweet - kind of has a bubblegum essence to it. This beer is kind of like Pop Music and grape soda- not much substance but overall a fun drink and pretty enjoyable, not something i would drink all the time but does not mean its not worth drinking. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jan 27, 2007 Pours the typical hazy amber of the hefeweizen with a thick, white, frothy head. The aroma is very lackluster, sour and maybe some orange. The flavor is a step down if thats possible. There is an odd corn flavor (not a good thing in a weizen) and basically nothing else. Nothing at all. The palate (if you can call it that) was thin and a tad crisp. The finish was indescribable, so I won’t attempt it. Just know that it’s bad. Very bad. I’d avoid this at all costs.....wait...unless its free. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jan 27, 2007 The color was a murky orange. The head was frothy and white. The aroma was citris and yeasty, not very complex. The palate was watery and the finish, not long-lasting. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 27, 2007 Pours a nice hazy orange/amber, a little bit darker than I expected for a hefe. About an inch of white foam. Decent lace.
Sweet honeymalt flavor and mildly hoppy. Surprising for a hefe. I detect no citrus or spiciness, no yeast characteristics either. Actually, it tastes more like a pretty good amber ale than a hefeweizen. More spicy hops in the aftertaste.
Good carbonation, medium bodied. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Jan 27, 2007 Bottle. Pours a cloudy, muddy yellow with thin white head. The aroma is clove, zest, pepper, and various other spices. The flavor is like banana bread, with alcohol, clove, and mulling spices. The banana comes out especially in the finish. Kind of a weird aftertaste. Ok, but not great. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jan 26, 2007 On tap at Kincaid’s in Bloomington, MN. I should note that I had this beer with a lemon slice added, but it was not squeezed. The aroma contains the clean, soapy smell of yeast, cinnamon, and lemon sharpness. It was weak by the standards of the style, and it became a bit pungent as I drank. Pours a cloudy, opaque orange with not enough frothy white head; looks like apricot nectar in the glass. Initial taste is slightly off, a bit macro pale lager-like for some reason. It doesn’t have much of that classic hefeweizen taste (perhaps because it’s really an American wheat). I taste orange and a slight lemon sourness (I don’t think it’s from the lemon slice). There is a bit of hops bitterness, surprisingly. This medium to full-bodied beer is crisp, clean, refreshing, and lively in the palate. The taste improved as I drank despite the fact that the aroma got worse. Like a lot of American wheats, Pyramid Hefeweizen just makes you shrug your shoulders in indifference, especially when not consumed in the summer. Dastrn (115), Warsaw, Indiana, USA Jan 22, 2007 Updated: Aug 28, 2008amber color. cloudy, unfiltered. small, dissipating head.
smell: orange.
citrus taste with some subtle banana. not as sweet as blue moon, but otherwise very similar. faint hoppy aftertaste.
mouth feel is light and smooth. it makes me want to keep sipping. carbonation is just right!
drinkability: this is a very easy to drink beer. it sits a little heavy in the gut, but not too much. i would totally want 2.
overall, i think this beer is excellent. it was good to the last ounce! it would be a good session beer for me.
