punkeedo (465), San Antonio, Texas, USA Mar 29, 2005 This beer looks great--light yellow with a strong white head. Smells like a typically wheaty, tasty hefeweizen. Tastes about average for hefeweizens, perhaps with a bit more in a spicy way. Very good. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Mar 26, 2005 Enjoy by date 05/2005, Sampled March 2005
Pours a hazy light amber to gold color. It is topped by a frothy one-finger thick off white colored head. The aroma of this beer is dominated by the yeast that was mixed in. I get notes of bread, and yeast as well as soft notes of lemon and fresh cut grass from the wheat malt. As I smell the aroma a bit deeper a nice lightly toasted biscuit notes comes through, as well as perhaps a hint of banana type esters.
The taste is spritzy from the carbonation, and actually a bit spicy, though in a very clean way. The taste is softly fruity with hints of lemon, apple, and perhaps some soft pear. By and large though this beer is quite clean. I think most of the character comes from the yeast that was mixed in. There is a slight fullness and perhaps an astringent note, as well as the soft fruitiness that I attribute to the yeast.
This is a nice refreshing brew, quite simplistic, and light on the palate. You really cannot ask for more from a standard American Wheat beer. I really recommend adding the yeast on the bottom of the bottle to this beer, it adds some much needed flavor and complexity. Having said this, I would much prefer a German style Hefeweizen or a Belgian style Wit over this. sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 20, 2005 Orange; smallish white head. Smells very citrusy; missing the expected banana. Flavor is also nondescriptly citrusy; finish is lightly hoppy and a little bit grassy. Medium-bodied. Drinks more like a very light Belgian than a hefe. Weak. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Mar 13, 2005 this was aight. great aroma of banana and citrus and lemon. however, i didnt find them in the flavor at all. even with a lemon wedge squeezed in the beer, it was still lacking on the flavors normally found in hefes. unimaginative. good look though, nice cloudy yellow color with thick white head. i usually like hefes, this isnt one of the better ones. Maxamillion (103), Glendora, California, USA Mar 12, 2005 Not much of an aroma but still pleasant. Definitive wheat taste with slight lemony/citrus tartness. could be alittle heavier. It does however work well with food. Good for an average everyday beer. WMMALASKA (10), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Mar 12, 2005 This is a fantastic lighter beer for those days you just don’t feel like chewing your beer but cannot bring yourself to actually drink that Evian they call Budwiser. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 11, 2005 (Draught) Custard coloured body and a thin, white head without carbonation. Nose is mildly lemon. Flavour is lemony without the hefe banana taste. Quaffable yet one-dimensional. PuckLSHS (101), USA Mar 7, 2005 One of the best American style Wheat beers. It pours very cloudy with a very light head. Suggestions to improve flavor: Must ask bartendar to pour OVER lemon to bring out citrus flavor from cloudy texture. The beer is enhanced from the pour. Better from Tap than bottle depending on your tasting needs. Great beer for a summer day!! I am slightly biased since I grew up with this beer.
