A good beer to take your time and sip on, not one if you want to drink a lot fast. For 7% ABV, not terrible. popery (167), San Francisco, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Not my cup of tea for a winter beer. Malty, medicinal, minty flavor. The beer pours a relatively dark amber with a smallish head. The aroma is a mixture of band-aids and mint with some malt presence. The flavor is a tad sweet for my liking. It’s not a terrible strong ale, but it’s not terribly interesting or worth another purchase. Jubelale may be a dollar or two more for a six pack, but it’s worth it. chimaybier (52), Redding, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Six pack purchased at Liquor Barn in Redding. Appearance: light tan head that collapses quickly. Deep burgundy color. Bouquet: Walnuts, Cashews. Taste: Caramel malt with a nice (but not overly so!) hop balance. Palate: Slightly dry, imagine eating a bunch of walnuts. Overall, a good beer for Christmas, but there are better "Winter Warmers" out there... bigguns22 (101), Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 20, 2009 Pours mahogany in color with a smooth and silky cream head. Light reflects off beer with a ruby red color that is crisp and clear. Great balance of flavor, hops, malt, and a bitter sweet finish. twindog (90), Hampstead, Maryland, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 19, 2009 It’s a shame because this beer is often served way too cold to appreciate the malt complexities that would normally be showcased in a strong ale. Sweet finish with very little or no hop aroma, the heavy caramel flavor combined with the thick body make this a nice slow sipping winter warmer. After allowing it to come to room temp it started throwing out some medicinal qualities and a few plum-like esters. Not bad, but with the huge variety of winter warmers that hit the shelf out here in Seattle, this one is fairly ordinary. Pyramid’s best showing yet. manuchampions (107), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Beer pours a wonderful chestnut brown with thin lacing. Nose is subdued but has hints of roasted malts. Taste is complex with more roasted malt, biscuit and treacle. Hops linger in the finish. Decent. jcos (36), Maryland, USA

Dark mahogany appearance. Very malty taste. Smooth palate.
A decent beer, not my style.
