Mes_and_Sim (4495), Highgate, Greater London, England Sep 30, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle shared with Hog Town Harry. Thanks massively to Jan and Charlotte. Black and opaque with a thin but very stable tan head and plenty of lace. Stunning aroma. Awesome chocolate, lovely latte coffee, amazing sweet booziness. Good level of bitterness and a nice peppery hit. Hell bloody yeah. Awesome fruit and chocolate flavour with some slight ethanol and a fantastic almost astringent bitterness. Sticky but in a strangely good way. Slight bready funk with a bitter dark chocolate finish with an excellent sting from the alcohol. Shame about the papery hint in the aftertaste. Glorious mouthfeel. Slick and viscous yet strangely thin. Perfect hint of carbonation. Stunning beer. Amazing stuff. Thanks as always to Mr and Mrs Fonefan. tarjei (1300), Bryne, Norway Sep 29, 2008 Bottle at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. Black color with a small brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is coffee, coffee and chocolate. Heavy stuff - and I love it! stobbe74 (254), Denmark Sep 29, 2008 Bottle, 25cl. Pours a pitch black beer with a medium/large brown head. The aroma is licorice and roasted malts, complex. The flavor is heavy on the licorice and some roasted malts. Very bold and nice mouthfeel. Overall a fantastic Imperial Stout. HogTownHarry (3286), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Sep 25, 2008 Bottle (250ml). Shared by Mes_and_Sim - wheee!!. Lovely pour - (5-) - deep brown-black, solid medium-brown frothy head. Deep roast aroma - nut oils, flavoured coffee (I got a bit of hazelnut), a bit of treacle and yes, quite boozy - although I didn’t get 12% Thick, nutty deep roast taste, my ears warmed with the first sip - this is perhaps simple, but the deep roast and alcohol synergized well. It was oily and boozy on my palate, but oddly while it started thick it finished a little thin - initially it felt as soft and silky on my palate as any imperial I’ve had ... but it does finish hot, and a while I liked it more than a little, doesn’t quite make it to great. omhper (10731), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 22, 2008 Updated: Oct 1, 2008Bottled at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Very black, minimal beige head. Aroma of licorice and coffee. Sweet and full bodied. Very powerful with asphalt, loads of sugar and heavily warming alcohol. A beer for sipping. Think of a chocolate liqueur mixed with tar.
