Commercial Description:
This is a huge Porter that we have been aging in the French Oak wine barrels for six weeks. We brewed it with English Malt and a host of mod-range alpha hops. It is coffee colored and has a range of flavors from toffee to licorice in the finish (no licorice was added).

On tap at Raccoon Lodge--Poured a thin black body with minuscule bubbles for head. Sweet malty nose with a scent of bold alcohol in the finish. Well built beer. Chocolaty, spicy, yummy.

Draft at the brewpub. Strong aroma of asphaltic properties (fits the style in my view). Brown/black color with a tan head. Flavor is rather old fashioned flavor like linoleum paste used to smell (this is not necessarily a bad thing). Flavor is hint of sour with grassy or floral hop and a lot of dark roasted malt. It’s a strong bugger (9.4 on the tap handle). The finish has a lot of coffee which was not noticed at the start. Overall it fits the style.

draft @ brewpub - pitch black with slight tan head; lots of hop aromas mixed with the roasted coffee; alcohol is even and flavors are sweet, yet very smooth; thick texture is soft going down; a terrific porter

750. Thanks, HogFodder! Nice stuff. Pours black with light, somewhat moussy tannish head. Rich smoky, chocolatey, somewhat carbonated feeling nose. Attack is thick-bodied, well-carbed, and flavorful. Lots of roast and chocolate, along with a bit of cola. Tasty, but the flavor could use a bit more breadth. Clean finish.

Sampled on tap at the brewery during ABA Beer Tour ’07. Pours a near opaque dark brown brew with a thick and creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark caramel malt, toffee, vanilla and a touch of maple syrup. Not much hop scent in this beverage. Taste is highly carbonated, medium to full bodied, with flavors of chocolate, dark pitted fruit and a touch of tawny port. Finish has a high octane alcohol texture, sweet and then a good bitter and sweet aftertaste. One of Raccoon Lodge’s impressive brews.

Very good beer that could still use some time to age. The hops felt very strong and the alcohol hadn’t settled yet. This brew had a ton of carbonation, on the palate this beer felt like soda, fizzy and thinner then it looked. Caramel and plum flavors up front, with a chocolate and port-like finish. Very enjoyable beer that was a treat to see on the menu.

Quite tasty this one is. Somewhat overly sweet, with rich milk chocolate, lots of alcohol, but not lots of heat, just a presence in the aftertaste, much like drinking liquor. Lots of roasty and a big malt character with just the right amount of hops coming through in the finish.
