Cardamom and rye flavors abound in a massively thick and strong porter which fits the style well. Lingering spiced rye finish, and a pleasent deep black appearance. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 13, 2009 22oz bottle acquired in trade with riversideAK (thanks!). Poured a deeper brown color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of some lighter woodiness, chocolate, nutty, and some dark fruits. Tastes of dark fruits, black cherries, oaky woodiness, and I’m getting some of the wine. Had a tart finish that I really liked. I’m surprised by the lower ratings. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Sampled on tap at the brewery during ABA Beer Tour ’07. Pours a near opaque dark brown brew with a thick and creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark caramel malt, toffee, vanilla and a touch of maple syrup. Not much hop scent in this beverage. Taste is highly carbonated, medium to full bodied, with flavors of chocolate, dark pitted fruit and a touch of tawny port. Finish has a high octane alcohol texture, sweet and then a good bitter and sweet aftertaste. One of Raccoon Lodge’s impressive brews. BückDich (4851), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2004 Dark brown, tawny, mahogany. Light head, dissipated by the time I got to it on this sampler. The aroma has a nice bit of fresh hops blended with the alcohol. Note the lack of strong smoke/roast in the aroma. The flavor chews thick here & coats the mouth. The alcohol is definately felt & tasted. Good flavors, lots of alcohol. There's not too much complexity to this baltic, I do enjoy it though. theisti (1678), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2008 22 oz bottle mail ordered directly from the brewery. Pour is black, with ruby highlights and a smallish tan head. Aroma of pine hops and roasty sweet caramel maltiness. There is also a cocoa / milky element to the nose. The oak barrel mixes in as well. Interesting. Taste is the roasty, toasty slightly sweet caramel maltiness and a big shot of the pine hoppiness. Taste actually mirrors the nose quite well, also showing the oak barrel and cocoa. The residual hop aftertaste gets into hay and grassy areas as well. The oak barrel has some vanilla notes too. Palate is nicely mouth coating, and medium. Overall, I really liked this. mreusch (737), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2008 22oz. bomber, with thanks to thesti for sharing! Pours a cola brown that sits black in the glass, with a frothy tan head. Aroma is oak, chocolate, and more citrusy hops than expected for the style. Flavor is more citrus hops, chocolate and some oak. It’s got nothing to do with the rating, but wouldn’t call this a baltic porter. Nice stuff, thanks again for sharing Tim!
