TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Nov 11, 2007 Sampled a pint of this one on draught at the brewpub in Portland, OR. This beer pours to a slightly hazy, deep golden to orange color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a good carbonation. The nose in outstanding, with big, pungent aromas, of pine, lemon, and grapefruit. The palate is firm, with good pale and biscuit malt flavors, with a very good, tangy, grapefruit hop flavor. This beer finishes with good pale malt and hop flavors up front, then ends with a very, long, dry, very zesty piney/cirtus hop bitterness that lingers for quite some time. This beer just screams PNW hops, and is what AIPA is truly all about. Big hop aromas, big hop flavors, big hop bitterness. Packed with character, yet still a very drinkable beer that you could enjoy a few pints of, and a beer that would work well with the spicy fare on the menu.
Dogbrick (2214), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 31, 2007 Bottle courtesy of a travelling friend. This brew pours a murky orange color with a medium thick and foamy light beige head that dissipates slowly. Top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Huge butterscotch aroma blows off pretty quickly, leaving a floral hoppy nose. Medium-bodied and moderately hoppy with butterscotch and malt undertones. The finish is dry and equal parts hops and malt. Pretty enjoyable overall.
